Cloud storage service Dropbox has been in the news lately for all the wrong reasons and, in yet another security/privacy risk issue, it’s been alleged that Dropbox file-sharing is not entirely secure and that Dropbox employees and potentially government agencies can snoop around your shared files – the digital equivalent of the postman going through your bills and personal letters.
HomePipe promises to address this issue by effectively creating a ‘secure pipe’ between a remote machine and your home computer. Files are not stored in the cloud but instead remain on your home computer, so there’s no opportunity for a third-party to gain access without your explicit say-so.
HomePipe’s co-founders have an impressive security background – they created Aventail which offers enterprise-level SSL and VPN solutions – and have brought their expertise to bear on the crowded file-sharing market.
You can download HomePipe for free from Android Market now.
