Find My iPhone app has been one of the most important and useful apps that any iOS device must have. In these days iPhone thefts has increased the double and many devices are stolen. The most feature in Find My iPhone is the ability to activate "Lost Mode" where the app allows you to remotely password protect the device, and add a custom message on its Lock screen so that if someone finds your phone, they can call you and arrange a meet up.
The best part is that when you enable lost mode, no one will be able to restore your iPhone or reactivate without your Apple ID and password. If this might not prevent someone from stealing your device, it will at least prevent this person from doing anything with it and he can't even sell it.
In this post, I am going to show you a little guide on how to enable Lost mode of an iPhone or iPad that might be lost or stolen.
You can enable Lost mode via two ways, the first one is directly from Find My iPhone app on any iOS device, or from iCloud.com.
How to put your iPhone or iPad in Lost Mode
STEP 1: From your iPhone's homescreen, open Find My iPhone app and log into it, where you will have to type your Apple ID and password, remember you should log in Find My iPhone from a device you own (It could be a friend's iPhone) At any case you must write the Apple ID and PW.
STEP 2: Once you are logged in, the app will show you a map with a list of the devices you have and linked to your Apple ID.
Simply tap on the device you have lost or you think it is stolen.
STEP 3: Now you should see "Actions" button at the bottom of the screen, tap on it and then tap on "Lost Mode".
STEP 4: At this step, you will be asked to confirm you want to turn on lost mode, simply tap on "Turn on Lost Mode" to continue.
STEP 5: If the device you are trying to put in Lost Mode doesn’t have a passcode, Find My iPhone will require you to set one up on the spot. Type in a passcode and type the new passcode again to confirm. If you already have a passcode enabled on the device, then you can go straight to the next step.
STEP 6: Now you will have the option to enter a phone number where you can be reached. This phone number will be displayed on your lost/stolen iPhone. Although optional, it is highly recommended you add your phone number so people can reach you if they find your device. Tap “Next” when done.
STEP 7: The final option the app offer is the ability to send a specific message that will be sent to the lost iPhone. The default message is “This iPhone has been lost. Please call me.” but you can customize it the way you want. Tap “Done” in the upper right corner to activate Lost Mode.
Now the device will be at lost mode and the thief will not be able to restore/reactivate it or anything from what I've mentioned above.
The device that has been put in Lost Mode will display your custom message and phone number on its Lock screen.
Now what if the thief was too smart and decided to restore it from iTunes, what would happen ? Simply iTunes will reject the order and tell him that this iPhone can't be restored because it is in lost mode and locked.
Nowaday people must be careful with their devices especially if they have an Apple device..
