Welcome to the 21st part in out series of troubleshooting articles dedicated to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. It has been a week since we released the previous part and ever since then we have been receiving lots of emails not just for this model but other Android devices as well. In this part, we will be dealing with unique issues that some of our readers are facing. Examples of issues are display not working when fingers are used, or the “Ok Google” setting interfering with the voice feature of the camera.

Note 3 “Ok Google” Conflicts With Camera Voice Settings
Problem: I have had the Samsung Note 3 (AT&T) for several months, love the device, and have had very few problems until the KitKat version updated (don’t ask me which version resulted in which issues cuz I have no clue). 1) Action Memos all of the sudden would not list in date order after being revised. Weeks spent with @SamsungSupport on Twitter with about ten different employees and still could not resolve the issue. I ran test after test after test (even deleted ALL cache, data, notes and started from scratch), but tests result in same problem. Eventually, the revised notes end up out of order (not the older ones, but mostly just revised ones). Samsung says “Factory Reset,” which to me is a dirty word and I refuse to do it. Any ideas? 2) Concurrent with the above problem (but I think related to a more recent KitKat update) “Ok Google Detection” settings CONFLICT with Camera Voice settings. If “Ok Google Detection” is not set up at all OR if just the first box is checked, my camera will still take a picture when I say “Cheese, Smile,” etc. Never had an issue using this camera voice feature until KitKat allowed the “Ok Google” feature “from any screen” and “from lock screen.” So bottom line is if “From any screen” AND “From lock screen” are checked off, no Camera Voice allowed on my Note 3, even though the little microphone is still visible in Camera Mode (and no, I am not in “Senior Citizen Mode,” so that’s not the issue). Again, two weeks on Twitter with @SamsungSupport and nothing they suggest works. They claim they have no other reports from customers on this issue and want me to do a factory reset, which I hesitate to do cuz I figure the upcoming KitKat update in August or so may resolve both of these issues. Again, any clue about these two very strange things on the Note 3? And, FYI, my tests have been from TouchWiz, Aviate and Google Now launchers, all with the same results. Thanks.
Solution: Since these problem occurred just after the upgrade to KitKat then one of the best possible solutions is to do a factory reset. I know this is such a hassle however most problems that crop up after an update can easily be resolved his way. The reason behind this is that there may still be data from the previous version stuck in your device that is causing problems with the new version.
A factory reset is highly recommended however make sure to backup all your data first.
Back up all data on the internal memory.
Turn off the device.
Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
When ‘GALAXY Note 3′ appears on the screen, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
Press Power button to select.
Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘delete all user data.’
Press Power button to select and start the master reset. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
Press the Power key to turn the restart the device.
Note 3 Does Not Recognize My Fingers
Problem: To whom it may concern, Im having a huge issue with my AT&T Samsung Galaxy note 3, where the phone will not recognize my fingers but only the Spen. This has happened twice now and I want to know if you have ran across this issue before. Basically when it happened the first time I took it to AT&T and after an hour and a half they were able to fix it but I cant remember exactly what they did and unfortunately I’m currently not located close to a store I’m on travel for business. Just to let you know I tried the steps from your webpage specifically step 16: Touch screen wont work with finger, and even disabled and enabled the Screen sensitivity and cleaned the screen protector (Otterbox) but to avail.
Solution: Since you already performed the previous troubleshooting steps which we released then there is a big possibility that this could already be a hardware issue. The device could have a faulty digitizer or ribbon cable. In this case it is best to have this checked at an authorized service center.
Note 3 Call Rejection Issues
Problem: Hello, The Droid Guy. I am a huge fan of your page and it’s amazing how you help people with their androids. Well my Note 3 has an issue of blocking a phone number even though the number isn’t on the call rejection list. Is there anyway to prevent my Note 3 from doing it again? I reboot the phone and then the call works but then later on, my phone blocks it again. In my call logs, I can see the phone number but it has a circle and a line through it on the side sort of like this Ø. The issue only started a week ago. I’ve had this Note 3 for roughly 8 months. I am running 4.4.2 Android Kit Kat. What do you think is the problem?
Solution: Could you have possibly installed an app that might be causing this? To check if it is an app try booting your device in Safe Mode.
Turn off the device.
Press and hold the Power/Lock key for one or two seconds to turn on the device.
When the Samsung logo displays, press and hold the Volume down key until the lock screen displays.
When the lock screen displays, Safe mode shows in the lower-left corner of the screen.
Once in Safe Mode check and see if your device still blocks the number that isn’t in your call blocking list. If not then look for the particular third party app that is causing this and delete it.
If you are still experiencing the problem in Safe Mode then this might be a network issue. Try using another SIM on your device and see if the problem still occurs. If it doesn’t block the call then you may want to contact your carrier regarding this issue.
Note 3 S Finder No Longer Searching Evernote, Other Apps
Problem: Hi, I’m a longtime EN premium user and have owned the Note 3 since December 2013. Until recently, one of the things that I loved was that I could use the Note 3′s “S Finder” app to search all content on the phone (action memos, stored files, google drive etc) while also searching content from my Evernote account (and other apps) simultaneously. Recently, for no reason obvious to me, Evernote notes no longer appear to be being searched when I do an S Finder search. I have gone into settings multiple times and checked and unchecked evernote, uninstalled and reinstalled EN to see if I could get it working again, and even did a fsctory reset. No luck. I’ve posted this issue on XDA developers, phandroid, and even recently did an online chat with AT&T my provider) without any luck. I’m starting to consider even doing a factory reset, but I’d hate to go through all of that trouble (already did it once recently after installing Kitkat). I believe S Finder was still searching EN after I installed KitKat, so I’m not sure that that’s the problem either. Someone please help!! Thanks
Solution: Did you install any app during the time that this problem occurred? A third party app may be causing this issue. Since this is obviously a software issue the best way to fix it is to first check if there are any software and app updates for your device. Next, a factory reset is highly recommended. After performing the factory reset update your device so that the default apps will be updated then try to install the Evernote app only. You will then have to check and see if it works fine. If it does then install the apps that you regularly use one at a time while constantly checking the S Finder feature with Evernote.
Note 3 Battery Gets Drained Quickly
Problem: Battery life was so good on 4.3, even after heavy use it would last me through the entire day and then some. After the update, I’m draining juice like there is no tomorrow. The battery doesn’t even last me half the day with the same amount of usage as before. WTF!!!….what made this phone a beast was that it had insane battery life for such a powerful device, that you could heavily use it and it lasted through the entire day,but this update has ruined it. I know I sound like a kid who had his candy stolen, but this is making me angry and sad at the same time. Is there a way to downgrade?
Solution: Unfortunately there is no easy way to downgrade your device even if you have rooted it. For the exact procedure try checking out the XDA forums on this matter. What you can do however is try out these procedures below and see if it helps improve your battery life.
Remove SD card then observe your battery performance
From the home screen, tap the Menu key.
From the General tab, scroll to and tap Storage.
Scroll to and tap Unmount SD card.
Remove the SD card.
Perform a soft reset
Turn your phone off.
Remove the battery. After 30 seconds, reinsert the battery.
Turn your phone back on.
Make sure your device is running the most recent software.
Tap the System Updates dashboard.
Tap Device Software.
Tap Check now.
