Today we present to you our 19th part in this series of Samsung Galaxy S3 problems. There have already been hundreds of questions from our reader that we have answered regarding this model and we are still receiving lots of emails everyday concerning this device. This however is not an indication that the S3 is a problematic device it’s just that some users who experience something out of the ordinary raise their concerns to us to find an answer.

Galaxy S3 Won’t Turn On
Problem: Dear droidguy, My samsung galaxy s3 has been broken for a while. Last time I used it was before I did a software update. When I did the software update, the phone never turned back on. All it does when I try to turn it on is it gets stuck on the samsung screen. I can go into the recovery mode and I’ve wiped the cache and tried to reset to factory settings but it still won’t turn on. I have a feeling that there is no software on it. If you know how to help I would be incredibly thankful if you could share any ideas you have to fix the problem.
Solution: A lot of people have experienced their devices getting stuck in the Samsung screen. In your case you can still enter recovery mode which is good. You mentioned that you already wiped the cache and reset everything to factory settings but the problem still occurs. This could be caused by a faulty update process.
Here’s what needs to be done. If you have a laptop available make sure that it has the latest Kies software installed.
Start by downloading and installing the latest version of Kies software
Now launch the installer and allow Kies to install on your system. If you are prompted to reboot the system, do so
Now you will need to connect your device to the PC or laptop using a USB cable.
Kies will recognize your device and you will see a pop-up. Now click update and follow through the instructions
Kies will begin downloading firmware upgrade, make sure you do not disconnect the cable connected to the PC or shut it off
When the update process has completed, click OK
Now you can disconnect your device from the PC
Restart your S3
Galaxy S3 Random Reset Issue
Problem: Hi, I have an AT&T S3 that is about a year and half old, running on I believe 4.3. It has had several of the bug issues that are reported with that operating system and issues that are new to me. It was powering on and off by itself, often powering back off before the system finished rebooting. I took the battery out, replaced it and did a full charge without powering it back up, and that worked for a few hours, until the cycle started again. I managed to get it on long enough to do a Factory Reset, spent 45 minutes allowing apps to download back and get it set back up when the phone reset itself. I started the new phone set up process a second time and halfway through the setup, the phone reset again, before any additional apps had been download. Any suggests on how to save my phone? My back up is an iPhone 4 that I would prefer to leave buried in the closet.
Solution: People who have experienced this same issue say that a hard reset works. In your case though, you already performed a factory reset and still the issue exists. From what I can see it seems like your device doesn’t reboot during the factory reset process but when apps are installed on it the issue starts. Here’s what needs to be done. Try to enter safe mode on your device and observe it if it randomly resets itself. During safe mode only the necessary apps are running which means any third party apps are disabled. If your device does not reboot then chances are it’s an app that is causing the problem. In this case you will need to uninstall any third party app one at a time until you find out which one is causing the reboot.
Here are the steps to enter safe mode.
Turn the device off.
Wait for a few second before you turn it on again.
Turn the device on again by pressing the Power button.
Press Volume down key when the Samsung logo appear on screen.
Hold Volume down key until the safe mode Appear on the lower left key.
Release the Volume down key.
Done. Now you have managed to get into safe mode.
Galaxy S3 Microphone Not Working After Update
Problem: Mine is a saudi-purchased s3. Now I’m in India and Yesterday this thing updated 4.3 on its own (auto update) and now my microphone is not working in calls or s voice or voice recording. Is it because of the software update and are there any particular solutions for this?? When I went to the service center they tell me that the motherboard must be replaced and all, but I dont know why they tell that and after all its an update which was provided by samsung themselves.
Solution: Since the service center says that it’s a motherboard issue then they could be right. However, you can do some checking on your own to see if this is caused by other factors. You mentioned that right after the update the problem occurred. First we need to check some of the settings of the device.
Go to settings>Accessibility and check that “turn off all sounds” is not be selected.
Go to settings> Sounds and check that volume levels is high and turned on.
Go to Menu> Call settings > Additional settings and see the noise reduction. If it is checked, then un-check it.
If you are still facing the same issue then you need to check if there are any additional updates for your device that may resolve this issue. To do this, simply connect your S3 to a computer with the latest Kies software running. You will be prompted if a new update is available.
One final step that you could do is to perform a factory reset on your device. Make sure that you have made a backup of all your important data.
Turn off the device.
Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
Press Power button to select.
Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘delete all user data.’
Press Power button to select and start the master reset. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
Press the Power key to turn the restart the device.
Galaxy S3 Issues After 4.4.2 Update
Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 ( Sprint ) and with the new 4.4.2 update I noticed all of the items listed. Occasionally it will reboot when I am entering keystrokes. I have noticed that the battery will show 100% charge but when I disconnect the cable it will drop to between 80 to 40% immediately sometimes. I have noticed that sometimes when you connect the charge cable it will show charging but will actually be discharging till it reaches total discharge which then powers down and starts recharging. I also have noticed that the charging cable is very sensitive to movement and switches from charging to
discharging then back to charging many times. The battery drain seems to be lower than the previous version for normal operations. With the previous version I had to turn off mobile data when not using it to get thru a normal day. Now I can leave mobile data on all day if the battery is charged. I have several cables and chargers with the correct connecter on them and all seems to respond the same way. I also have another question. Where is the web data stored for offline viewing? I have many items stored this way and can go to it with internet explorer but I would like to move some of these to my external memory device. I also have noticed with the new update that if the mobile data is turned off, sometimes it will give a message that the internet is off and it will not display the data. This data is stored to be read when offline? I have a 32GB internal memory (ePROM) and a 64GB external micro storage device. My system has not been ROOTED but I understand to get access to the stored web data I may need to ROOT it. I see the internal memory has many partitions. If you could respond to the web page data I would be very appreciative.
Solution: It looks like you are experiencing multiple issues on your S3 after the Android 4.4.2 update. First regarding the random reboot issue most of the time this could be fixed with a factory reset. Make sure to do a backup of all your important data first before performing the procedure. Steps for this are provided in the post above. This procedure may also resolve your battery issues. Regarding the web data storage for offline reading we’re not 100% sure but it is probably stored on internal storage (below /data/data/com.android.browser). If your device isn’t rooted you won’t be able to access this though.
Galaxy S3 Not Charging
Problem: Hello, Earlier today, my Samsung Galaxy s3 ran out of battery and turned off. Normal. But when I plugged it into the car charger, it wouldn’t charge. I took it inside to try my wall plug, and it still wouldn’t charge. It had done this once before, but I unplugged the charger, blew the dust out of the port and the charger, and it worked. Now, it will not acknowledge the charger. As I rotate it and move it around with the charger attached, occasionally the battery logo and red light turn on and turn off almost instantly. I can’t seem to find and hold the angle at which the phone will charge. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you
Solution: From the way you describe the problem it looks like the charger tip has a problem or it could be an issue with the charging port on your S3. Here’s what you need to do to check which one is causing the problem. Try using a different charger with a different USB cable that is known to normally work with other devices. If your S3 charges normally then your old charger is defective. If the issue still exists and you still have to move your device around then there’s something wrong with the charging port of your S3.
Turn your S3 off and take out its battery. Clean its charging port with cotton and alcohol and let it dry for a few seconds. Replace the battery and see if you can charge it. If it charges then it’s probably just an issue with dirt accumulation. If not, then you need to have your device checked at an authorized service center.
Galaxy S3 Water Damage
Problem: ok so i recently had my phone covered in a beverage drink in my bag, i immediately took the battery out wiped it down and everything , put it back in and the phone turned on fine and everything was perfect, later on that day i had left my phone idle for a couple of minutes but when i got back to it the screen went black , everything was working perfectly but the screen was just black. I did some research and figured out that it would be a good idea if i leave my phone on a bag of rice so the liquid left inside would dry up. the next day i take my phone out turn it on and it work perfectly screen was fine until a few minutes when the screen acted up and turn black again, so i was back at zero with results , is there anyway you can help me because until this day i have my phone sitting in a bag of rice just for it to turn on for a few moments and turn off
Solution: Unfortunately in this scenario it looks like your S3 has been water damaged. When water enters any electronic device that is turned on there’s a big possibility that some of its components will get shorted. You’ll have to bring this to an authorized service center and have it opened to check on the extent of the damage.
Galaxy S3 Drive Mode Issue
Problem: So I have been having some problems with my galaxy S3 since yesterday my drive mode has been turning on and off for about 1-5 seconds constantly since yesterday I have gone into the system settings and tried to figure out why. The drive mode tab is off and the problem persists and even if you turn the drive mode on it still remains on. I also had a weird screen stay on my phone for about 2 hours which did not shut down the actual screen it said update and it didn’t show any updating actions happening to the actual phone. please help me if you can.
Solution: Several other people are also experiencing this same problem. Some of them say that a factory reset does the trick. One easy solution though is to disable S Voice.
In the application list, tap the S Voice icon or double-tap the Home button.
Tap the Menu button located in the lower-left area of the phone, below the screen. A Settings option should appear. Select it.
Uncheck the Launch S-Voice option.
Galaxy S3 Camera Fail
Problem: i keep getting camera fail on my gs3, its tmobile t999l. sometimes camera will work most of the time i get black screen then camera fail error., tried replacing camera and nothing, did factory resets, even tried clearing cache and all that…what else can i try? i dont have money for a new phone and i need camera for my job, can you help?
Solution: When a camera fail error occurs the first step that need to be done is to clear the cache of the camera app which you already did. You also did a factory reset but that did not solve the problem.
Just to clarify here’s what needs to be done for this issue
Clear the camera’s cache and data. Go to the Apps Manager > Camera > Force Stop > Clear Cache > Clear Data.
If it persists, you may need to clear cache partition of the system. Switch of the Galaxy S4 > Press and hold Volume Up + Home + Power keys till it vibrates > Inside the recovery mode, select “wipe cache partition” by using volume down and power key to enable it.
If the above procedure is unable to fix it, perform a factory reset instead. Create a backup first before initiating a factory reset. Go to Settings > Accounts > Backup and reset > Factory data reset > Reset device > Delete all.
If the problem still exists then try to use a third-party camera app and see if it works.
Galaxy S3 Randomly Turn Off
Problem: Hello, i wonder if you can help i have been having some problems with my samsung s3 phone i can switch it on it goes past booting up and straight to my apps so thats fine but about 1 minute later the phone switches itself off i have tried putting a brand knew battery inside but it does the same thing someone suggested to me that i have to reset my phone as it is a problem within the phone they said make sure I back up my stuff great been trying to do that but i cant because my phone keeps switching itself off it wont stay on long enough for me to try to save anything even when i try to access it from computer help what do i do and how can i fix my phone and y idea’s?
Solution: Try booting your S3 in safe mode to see if any third party app is causing the issue.
Ensure the device is powered off.
Press and hold the Power button until the Samsung logo appears then release.
With the Samsung logo on screen, press and hold the Volume down key
Continue to hold the Volume down key until Safe mode appears in the lower-left of the unlock screen then release.
As far as the backup of your data is concerned make sure to use the latest Kies software for this. If the device keeps on rebooting even while using Kies then you can either choose to do a factory reset without backing up your data or you could go through the process of backing up your data one at a time (which could be just enough time before the device resets itself).
Galaxy S3 Slow Performance
Problem: Hi hope all well I am using samsinh s3 ir was working fine on 4.2. From the dau I have updated it to 4.3 the apps xontacta and other in buolt apps have statted opening slow. I did master reset and tried to clear background apps by pressing long menu key. I also clear ram memo regularly. I have also downloaded hsey booster to clear files bit no luck. Please help me I dnt want to work it slow as its a nice hset. Plwase please help me. I am working with orange uk process and I diagnose hsets but cant help with mine 1.
Solution: Try booting in safe mode and see if the performance of your S3 is slow. The procedure is shown just above this post. If in safe mode the device performs well then the issue is probably caused by one of your installed apps in which case you must uninstall them one at a time until you discover the root cause.
If in safe mode the performance is still slow then the TouchWiz might be causing the problem. If this is the case then perform the steps below while still in safe mode.
Pull the Notification Bar and tap on the Settings icon. (The gear icon located at the top right of the screen.)
Tap More tab.
Tap Application Manager.
Swipe right or left to display All tab’s contents.
Scroll to and tap TouchWiz.
Tap Clear Cache, and then Clear Data. (Note: Your Home screens will be deleted once you tap on Clear Data.)
