Galaxy S4 Active Display Not Responsive
Problem: I bought my galaxy S4 active around July of last year and the screen had a mini crack probably two months later but I don’t think that is a factor to whats going on with my phone now. I did download the recent update when it first came out and i have also been experiencing the email loading problem. Up until this morning my touch screen was responsive. Now I can only answer calls with air activation other than that I can’t access anything in my phone via touchscreen. Is there any way I can get it to respond again?
Solution: Touchscreen issues on the S4 may be caused by different factors which could either be software or a hardware concern. If it’s a hardware issue then the device must be checked by an authorized center. However, if it’s got something to do with the software then there’s a big chance that you will be able to fix it on your end.
First try to reboot your device by turning it off, take out the battery for a few minutes then place it back in, then turn the phone on. This helps by refreshing your device. Check and see if the problem still exists.
Second, do you have tons of apps installed in your device? They may be eating up your memory causing the device to perform slowly. Try uninstalling some of the apps that you rarely use.
Third, are you using a screen protector? Sometimes this interferes with the touchscreen of a mobile device. Try taking it out and see if the problem does not occur anymore.
Galaxy S4 Slow Transfer of Photos to Laptop
Problem: I tried to transfer my pictures onto my laptop “photos” file and I don’t use any particular website, I just use the files on my laptop. But when I am connected from my phone and it is being used as the camera in order to transfer the pictures, it is still charging, but it pulls up on my computer so I can view the files before I do anything with them. Once it pulls up the files, I have to find them and found the photos in “DATA” but when I click on data, it takes forever to load all the pictures, and even then, you can’t see the pictures. I have still tried to transfer them onto the other folder, but it won’t even transfer over.
Solution: The simplest and most user friendly way to transfer photos from your S4 to your laptop is by using the Kies software of Samsung. First you will need to download the latest Kies software from the Samsung website and install it in your laptop.
Once installed follow the procedure below
Open the Samsung Kies software.
Connect your device to your PC using the supplied USB cable.
Your device should connect and show in the left panel of Kies. You may need to change the USB settings if you cannot connect; swipe your finger from the top of the screen to the bottom to open the Notification Panel, and touch Connected as a camera. Touch Media device (MTP) to change the USB settings. The Notification Panel should show Connected as a media device
Click Photos or Videos under your device’s name in the left panel.
Mark the checkbox next to the photos or videos you want to save to your computer.
Click Save to Kies Library to save the selected photos or videos to your computer.
Choose the location you would like to copy the selected files to.
The selected pictures or videos will be transferred to your computer. You can view them by clicking Photos or Videos under Library in Kies or by opening the folder you selected in the step above.
Galaxy S4 Battery Drain Issue
Problem:I’ve been using the S4 for 3 days now. I notice that I have to charge my phone daily. Ive only downloaded the BBM and the Whatsapp to date. Is this normal. Can you please advise.
Solution: Apps that need an Internet connection and sync online regularly will definitely drain your battery at a faster rate. If you really must use these two instant messaging apps then try to use Wi-Fi instead of a mobile data connection. Using Wi-Fi consumes less power than mobile data yet will still place a toll on your battery. Most people who use these apps usually carry a power bank with them or a spare fully charged battery.
Galaxy S4 KitKat Update Notification Keeps Popping Up
Problem: Well its been almost a year I spent with my galaxy s4 but, recently there was a kitkat update for it and I keep receiving software update messages every week to tell me to check for an update . And when I check for an update it tells me that my device is already up to date but its still running on 4.3 jellybean. I need a fix for this problem . Please help. Thank you
Solution: Normally if an update notification is pushed to a device it means that it is ready to receive the update. In this case however it appears that KitKat can’t be installed on the device since it is reporting that it is already up to date. While most people who have updated and tried KitKat would love to return back to Jelly Bean, the constant notification about the update is annoying.
In cases like this the first step to do is to refresh the device. To do this simply turn off the phone, take out its battery for at least 30 seconds before placing it back in, then turn on the phone. Check and see if the KitKat update issue is resolved.
If that didn’t work and you really need to update to KitKat then one of the best ways to do it is to perform a factory reset on your device before performing the update process. Take note that this will remove all data stored in your device so you must make sure to back them up. Also make sure to have your phone battery fully charged.
Power off your device
Press and hold the Volume Up Key and the Home Key, do not release
Press and hold the Power Key
When the phone vibrates, you can release the Power Key, but continue to hold the others
When the tiny blue text appears in the upper left hand corner of the screen, you can release the other buttons
Allow the phone to finish booting
You will use the Volume Up and Volume Down keys to navigate up and down through the menu
You will use the Power Key to select a menu item
Navigate to the wipe cache option and select it. Confirm you choice (if asked)
Navigate to the wipe data / factory reset option and select it. Navigate down to Yes and select it
Select the reboot device option
Set phone up like you did when you first got it
Once you get the KitKat update notification then update your device
Galaxy S4 Screen Goes Blank
Problem: I was wondering if you could help. I’ve had this problem for a while now – whenever I make a phone call, my screen immediately goes blank, even if I don’t lift it to my ear, so to get it back on I have to press the home button. I have tried clearing out the proximity sensor with compressed air, and still no luck. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
Solution: Your cleaning of the proximity sensor is a good solution that usually works for most consumers. Cases like this usually involves the proximity sensor and since cleaning it didn’t work then there may be a problem with it. You could try going to your settings and turning the sensor off.
Go to Settings
Then My Device, Call
Then uncheck the option
Turn off screen during call
If this doesn’t work then it could be a problem with the sensor itself and the best way to resolve this is to have it fixed by an authorized service center. Before sending it though try to perform a factory reset on your device (backup all data first) to rule out a software glitch.
Galaxy S4 Connection Failed
Problem:Hi, I came across your blog and was hoping you could help because no one at Sprint has any idea what I’m talking g about. When I upgraded my phone last it started lagging and would get stuck on the lock screen making it hard for me to enter my password to unlock my phone. More recently Sprint was offering a data optimization trial where I could potentially get $10 off my bill. As soon as I downloaded it my phone started getting stuck in apps unable to go back to the home screen, it would stop responding to the home key all together, and would even stop communication with the 3G and 4G when it was available. I eventually had enough and deleted the app, and refreshed my cache. Ever since I deleted the app though, I can’t get on the Internet from apps. I usually use my phone for everything and there is obviously not a connectivity issue of I can get emails and use the Internet browser, but every time I try an refresh my twitter or Facebook it says my connectivity has failed. All my apps, not including chrome and the provided email app are claiming that my service is out. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks
Solution: Basically the phone is facing two issues right now. First it’s difficult to get past the lock screen and second it’s having an Internet connectivity issue. In cases like this the best thing to do is to perform a factory reset of your device since it looks like a software issue is causing the problem. The procedure is listed in the post above. Be sure to save all of your data before doing a factory reset.
Galaxy S4 Does Not Turn On
Problem: Hello, I have been cruising around your blog and thought i should send you an email since I have a big headache caused by my S4. I bought my phone when I was in Korea(mistake no. 1) and I came back to New Zealand. For 3 months, it was working fine without any problem. However, one day my alarm didn’t go off and I was late to work. When I woke up I was about to check what time it was but the screen won’t turn on while the phone is on. I could see the green light flashing. Ever since, after locking my phone screen, the screen won’t turn back on when I press home or turn on/off button. I had to take the battery out and re-start my phone again each time. And now it doesn’t even turn on when I change the battery. I have tried with new batteries and someone else’s charger but the phone still won’t turn on and I cannot fix my phone in New Zealand since my warranty only applies in the country of purchase. I don’t know what to do… Please if you know of any solution that might bring my phone alive. Please let me know.
Solution: When the S4 does not turn on even when you have replaced its battery and charger see if you can perform a hard reset. To do this Press and hold the Home, Volume up and Power buttons until the Samsung logo appears on the screen. If it enters recovery mode then just reset the phone or restart it. If this doesn’t work then the deivce must really be checked by an authorized technician.
Galaxy S4 Data Turns On By Itself
Problem: Hi The Droid Guy, I’ve started to get a peculiar problem since the update to Knox and the new kids mode update, I switch off wifi and mobile data before I sleep, but for some strange reason, when my alarm goes off in the morning and I check my phone, mobile data is switched on. With the phone being synced and the full charge of the battery draining after I’ve charged it the night before. Help please.
Solution: This really is a peculiar problem. Try this solution, to Go to settings > connections > mobile data and deselect the mobile data check box. Next, go to settings > more connections > mobile networks and deselect mobile data and data roaming. If your mobile data still automatically turns on then you may want to disable the Knox and Kid Mode feature on your device to see if they are causing the issue.
Galaxy S4 Automatic Volume Changing Issue
Problem: Hi, my galaxy s4 changes volume by itself this happens when I am listening to music or quite often when I open a app. If i am listening to music i always have the volume high and suddenly the phone will lower the volume so it can just be heard. When I open apps on my phone I have the media turned off and it raises volume to the same level where it can be audible, again with no input from me. Hope you can help me.
Solution: To eliminate issues regarding third party apps try using the stock music player that came with the device and see if the problem still exists. If it still exists try resetting the data and cache of your music app and see if that does the trick.
