Samsung Galaxy S4 Can’t Send/Receive MMS After The Update
Problem: Hello, I browsed through your site on how to fix common S4 problems, but I did not see my particular issue. After updating to KitKat, I cannot easily send or receive MMS messages. I have restarted, pulled the battery, turned off WiFi, etc. Today, after pulling the battery, restarting with WiFi off, I had to download a picture sent to me and it took me 10 minutes to receive it. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Thanks, Inez.
Solution: Hi Inez. You know, there is always a possibility that some settings in your phone were messed up during the update process. In your case, it could be the APN. First, make sure that mobile data is enabled in your phone. After that, try to browse the internet using mobile data (I suggest you turn off Wi-Fi). If you can do that without having any problems, then the APN for the internet is working fine. Otherwise, both APNs for MMS and internet were messed or even deleted.
If you don’t know the correct APN settings, I suggest you call your service provider and ask for it. It is necessary so the phone can connect to the network. You may also ask the representative to walk you through editing or adding a new APN.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Email Counter Doesn’t Work
Problem: Hello, this is an annoyance more than a problem. I just had a Samsung s4 replaced due to video problems and the new one is now not showing the little numbers on the E-mail widget when I have e-mails. I am using Verizon E-mail as default. Kitkat 4.4.2. My old phone use to. It shows on a tablet. Thanks for any ideas. — Karl
Solution: Karl, it could be just a simple glitch in the Email app. There is a service that handles the counters responsible in showing correct number of new or unread messages; it’s called BadgeProvider. Try to clear its cache and data. Don’t worry, you won’t lose a message when you do so. After that, sent a test email to your own emails address. If it still fails to display the number, try clearing the cache (just the cache) of the email app you’re using. If that fails either, then it’s time you cleared the data, remove the account, and set it up again. That should do it.
Twitter And TouchWiz Crash After The Update
Problem: Dear sir, I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 through Verizon Wireless. I just updated to the new KitKat Operating System 4.4.2. Now everything was working great until I went to use the Twitter app from Twitter it self. Every time I go to the search icon at the top of the Twitter app and start typing two things happen.
The first thing is Twitter freezes and I am prompted to close, wait, or cancel. No matter what I hit Twitter is frozen. Then the second thing that happens is the keyboard, TouchWiz UI crashes and then I’m prompted to wait, close, or cancel. Now Twitter will eventually shut down leaving the keyboard up and my phone unresponsive for up to 3 minutes.
I usually have to hit the power button and wait a few minutes to reenter my phone. Now I have contacted Verizon and their answer was to do a factory reset, Twitter as not answered me but sends me automated emails telling me they are working on the problem. I do not feel a factory reset is the answer. I am a IT student and did the basic troubleshooting. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Twitter a few times, I have cleared the cache of the TouchWiz UI keyboard and nothing has happened.
The problem keeps coming back. Verizon answer of doing a Factory Reset will wipe my phone of everything and I will have to start over. Verizon also stated they will only send out a replacement under my warranty if I do the Factory Reset. I guess I would like to know if its a software conflict how is a Factory Reset going to fix the issue? Also have you heard of this problem? I have looked through Google search and don’t see anyone else with this issue. Is there a way to re push the software KitKat update again. I hope you understand my issue and can help, I don’t know what else to do. Thank you, Wayne.
Solution: The problem could be with the TouchWiz UI itself and not just in the keyboard. I suggest you clear the cache and data of TouchWiz as well. Your Home screens may be lost by doing this but it’s worth the shot. Another thing you could try is wiping the cache partition. You are an IT student, I’m sure you know how to boot to recovery mode and wipe the cache partition from there. If that doesn’t work, then factory reset is your last option but there is no certainty that it will fix the problem.
If I were you, I will flash the previous version using ODIN, then just download and install the KitKat update again.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Screen Goes Blank When It Should Not
Problem: Hello, I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 and when I make a call the screen goes blank even when it should not. I can not remember if it was doing this prior to kit kat or not. I have heard about taking the phone apart and blowing dust out of the proximity sensor and have watch YouTube videos also. It looks real elementary, but thought I would ask for suggestions. — Mike
Solution: It’s probably just dust that penetrated the hole in the case where proximity sensor is located. Try calibrating it and if the result shows there’s something in front of the sensor when there’s none, a blast of compressed air may solve this issue. But be very careful, though, prolonged and very strong blasts will create more damage than fix the problem. If you’re not confident, you can have a technician take a look at it.
Cannot Install The KitKat 4.4.2 Update on Galaxy S4
Problem 1: Hi there, I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 that had downloaded kit kat 4.4.2 update but not installed it, but it keeps prompting me to install it and all I can do is postpone the install reminder for 3 hours, then it asks again. Is there a away i can delete and remove this update so it doesn’t keep asking.
I have read countless stories from people having a whole host of problems with this update so I want to avoid it all together . I also had a S3 which i loved but had to do a factory reset after updating the software on that. I hope you can help! Many Thanks, Nathan.
Solution: As long as you’re phone is running the stock firmware, you’ll keep on receiving update notifications. If you want to get rid of it, root your phone and there is a thread over at XDA Dev forums that tackles this specific issue.
About not being able to install the update, try using Samsung Kies to pull the update down and install it. Unless you’ve successfully installed the update, you’ll keep getting that notification.
Problem 2: Well its been almost a year I spent with my Galaxy S4 but, recently there was a kitkat update for it and I keep receiving software update messages every week to tell me to check for an update . And when I check for an update it tells me that my device is already up to date but its still running on 4.3 jellybean. I need a fix for this problem . Please help.

Solution: Please use Samsung KIES to download the update. If that won’t work, contact your service provider and ask for requirements. You may need to install firmware with different baseband to be able to install the latest update.
Having Problems With Apps After The Update
Problem: I’ve been having a problem with my S4 ever since the 4.4.2 kitkat update. For some reason, my spotify crashes when I start it, and my whatsapp messenger no longer allows me to take photos or see photos or take recordings or see recordings. Instead it says the download could not be completed or the action could not be. Also, my snapchat doesn’t load or send photos either.
Solution: If all your apps except these three you mentioned are working fine, then it could be a compatibility issue between these apps and KitKat. Try clearing both cache and data of these apps and see if that helps. If not, then try to uninstall them and download fresh copies from the Google Play Store.
Galaxy S4 Wi-Fi Can’t Be Switched On
Problem: Hi, I found your mail in an article on the internet. I was wondering if you could provide a solution on my problem. I have updated my Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505) to KitKat 4.4.2. Solution: I’ve encountered a problem related to this before. The Wi-Fi couldn’t be turned on because the slider was greyed out. If this is your case, I suggest you boot to Safe Mode and try turning on Wi-Fi from there. If you’re successful, boot to normal mode and I’m sure the slider is already active.
Another way to fix this problem is to wipe the cache partition:
Turn off the device.
Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key
When the phone vibrates, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
Press the Power key to select. The phone will automatically restart after the cache is wiped.
