Although the Samsung #GalaxyS5 is one of the top Android smartphones out in the market today with a powerful hardware configuration it is still not immune from a variety of problems. One such problem that you may encounter with the device is the #S5 freezing issues. This is characterized by your phone freezing or not responding to your touch input when using certain apps. While this problem is mostly caused by a glitch in the software there are some cases where the phone hardware is the cause.
In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we have selected six problems sent to us by our readers seeking our assistance. We will come up with a solution to each of the problems which we hope will lead to a resolution.

S5 Freezes After Upgrading To Lollipop
Problem:When I turn on device from the lock screen (cm locker) it takes time to load up. Once loaded up it freezes, won’t let exit out of whatever app I’m using. While watching videos and i rewind/fast forward the video freezes, sound is coming from my device, the status bar is moving, as if the video is playing, but the screen is frozen. This all started after I upgraded to the lollipop that was recently automatically updated on my phone. Before that, while using the kit kat my phone is just fine.
Solution: If your phone worked perfectly fine when it was running on KitKat but then manifests the freezing issues immediately after you upgraded to Lollipop then the upgrade may be causing this to happen. In most cases when issues occur after a major software upgrade the problem is caused by old system software data that has not been completely removed. This means that your phone may still have some data leftover from the KitKat version which is now causing a conflict with the Lollipop version.
To resolve this issue you should back up your phone data then do a factory reset.
S5 Freezes When Display Gets Wet
Problem:I work in the heat (inside) in sales and always on the phone. EVERY time I answer the phone, sweat from my face is left on the screen. I have to wipe it clean each and every time. Once the call ends, I can’t search, move the screen at all. It will freeze up or starts doing its own think, like moving / calling people from the contact or call list. PLEASE HELP!
Solution: This problem is most likely caused by your sweat coming in contact with the display. Even if you wipe it clean there may still be some moisture left on the display which causes your phone to seem to freeze or randomly open certain functions on your device. I suggest wiping your phone using a microfiber cloth each time you end a call since this absorbs the most liquid and will not scratch your display.
Alternatively, you should also try to make your immediate surrounding cool so as to minimize your perspiration when on a call.
S5 Freezes After Getting Moisture
Problem:I have my Samsung S5. When I wake up my phone is wet with moist of the aircon. But I did not give attention on that because still working.. And I thought not get wet inside.. And later on my phone get die while I’m using it.. And it open again but just in logo of Samsung.. And I can’t use it because it freeze.. I try to open again.. But still again and again and. but now it goes to pin code but I can’t touch or put pin code because it freeze. So I need to take out charger in order to turn off.. Can u help me what should I do? is there anything i can do to make it work? Thank you.
Solution: What you need to do first is to completely dry your phone since it appears there may be moisture inside it. You need to take out the battery, SIM card, and microSD card if your phone has one. Bury your phone in a bowl full of rice for at least 48 hours. The rice acts as an absorbent and will absorb the moisture from your phone. Alternatively, if you have a couple of packets of silica gel available you can place this in a jar with your phone then cover the jar.
Once the 48 hours have passed take out your phone then reinsert the SIM card, microSD and battery. Turn on your phone. If everything goes well you should be able to use your phone now without any issues.
To prevent this issue from happening again make sure that the aircon is set in such a way that it does not cause moisture in the room. You should raise its temperature the next time.
S5 Freezes When MicroSD Card Is Inserted
Problem:Every time I put an sd card into the phone, it freezes, shuts down and gets stuck on a restart loop. I’ve bought a brand new Samsung sd card hoping it might be a fault with the old one but the same thing happened.
Solution: If the issue does not occur when your phone does not have a microSD card installed then the card may be triggering the problem. You did a good job in replacing the microSD card to isolate if it was the cause of the problem. Unfortunately in this case, the issue still persists with the new microSD. One other thing that you should also do is to insert your microSD card and the new Samsung card you bought to another phone and see if a problem occurs with this other phone. This way you can further verify if the problem is with the microSD card or not.
Once you have isolated the microSD card the next step is to check the microSD card slot of your phone. It may be a little difficult to inspect but what you should only look out for is if the contacts are deformed or if there is any dirt or lint present. If the contacts are deformed then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center. If you spot any dirt or lint then you can clean this out using compressed air or a toothpick.
If the microSD card slot of your phone appears to be normal then the next step is to check if the phone software is causing this problem. To do this you need to back up your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the factory reset has finished insert your microSD card then check if the issue still occurs.
If the problem remains then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center for further checking as this may already be a hardware related issue.
S5 Freezes After Lollipop Update
Problem:Recently I was pushed the most recent Lollipop update. Overall phone performs well and it helps in certain cases (camera, organization, etc.). However, the phone locks periodically (every 4-6 hours). When it locks it no longer charges, the screen freezes (usually on lock page or home screen as I was not using it) and I can’t do anything but a soft reset and remove battery. I’ve done a backup and done factory reset (through menu path) – and it has not helped. Very annoying. AT&T chat has been useless – and it is not a hardware issue (since phone was fine until last week). Thanks for any insight.
Solution: It is very likely that the software upgrade is causing this problem. In most cases though, a factory reset will resolve this issue which in this case it hasn’t. Try doing another round of factory reset but this time do it using the hardware keys. Make sure to back up your data before doing this procedure. After the factory reset do not install any apps just yet. Observe your phone for a day or two and see if it freezes. If it doesn’t freeze then the problem may be caused by an app that you installed. You will need to find out what app is causing the problem through a trial and error method. You can do this by installing an app one at a time. After every app installation observe your phone if the problem still occurs. This procedure may take some time to finish but it is the most thorough an accurate way to pinpoint the root cause of the problem.
S5 Freezes When Keyboard Is Used
Problem:Hi, Earlier this week I faced an issue whenever I opened any app that needed to use my keyboard, the screen would freeze. It would stay frozen for a good 5 mins. Being frustated I would press the home button, that was also unresponsive. I did a soft reset, and cleared out the phone’s cache, but nothing helped. I ended up having to do a hard reset. Is there anyway you can help me out just in case this happens again? Thanks
Solution: It’s good to know that the factory reset helped resolve the issue. If the problem occurs again you should try clearing the cache and data of the keyboard app as this may be the cause of your phone freezing. Keeping your software up to date by checking if there are any new updates is also one way of preventing this issue from occurring again. The updates usually comes with improvements and bug fixes that might address this particular issue.
