Now that the iPhone 6s event is confirmed for September 9, it’s about that time to start thinking about trading in your iPhone 6. Here’s how to get the best deal on an iPhone 6 trade-in and receive the most money for your device.
There are several online services that focus on buying and selling used iPhones, most of which make it really easy to trade in your old iPhone for some quick cash. They’ll even give you a box to ship your old iPhone to them for free. From there, they’ll assess your device and then send you money instantly to your bank account.
While it may not pay out as much as selling your old iPhone yourself on Craigslist or eBay, utilizing trade-in programs for selling your old iPhone is perhaps the quickest way to get money for your old device, and there’s much less hassle involved since you don’t have to deal with the buyer or worry for your safety if you’re using Craigslist.
There are several trade-in programs that you can take advantage of if you want to sell your iPhone, but the ones we’ll be focusing on are Glyde, Gazelle, NextWorth, and Orchard. The first three are perhaps the most popular online trade-in services, while Orchard is a fairly new competitor that does things a bit differently.
I’ll be comparing these four trade-in programs to see which one will offer more for a used 16GB iPhone 6 on Verizon.
iPhone 6 Trade-In Services Compared
In order to get the best deal on an iPhone 6 trade-in you have to shop around. You can’t just go to your first stop and decide to go with that, since it may not offer the best deal. Of course, if you’re loyal to a particular service, that’s a different story, but if all you’re focused on is getting the most money for your iPhone, you’ll go to where they offer you the most cash for your old device.
Now, on each of the websites of Glyde, Gazelle, NextWorth, and Orchard, you go through a quick questionnaire and answer questions about the condition of your iPhone, such as whether it powers on and all the buttons work fine, as well as whether or not the screen is broke and if there are any scratches visible on the device. All of this determines what your iPhone is worth to these services.
Orchard does things a little bit differently when it comes to this. You download their app and it takes you through the steps of verifying that everything on your iPhone is working, even your headphone jack. It’s a pretty cool way of doing it, and after it’s done, it’ll give you a price that they’ll pay you.
However, Orchard and Glyde both have similar methods for buying your old iPhone. Essentially, the longer you wait the more money you’ll receive for your device. Orchard, for instance, offered me $398 for a 16GB iPhone 6 on Verizon if I waited three weeks. Glyde offered me as much as $454, although they warned me that it wouldn’t probably be awhile before my iPhone would sell at that price. Instead, they offered me a “market price” of $424, which is still higher than Orchard’s best offer.
As for Gazelle and NextWorth, both use traditional ways of buying your iPhone, giving you one solid price that it’ll pay for your old iPhone based on its condition. How good are these prices, though?
Gazelle’s website said they would give me $330 for my 16GB Verizon iPhone 6, whereas NextWorth said they would give me $345. The nice thing about these services is that I wouldn’t have to wait to get my money, but both offers are significantly lower than what Orchard and Glyde would give me.
What’s the Best Deal?
Out of these four trade-in services, Glyde was the best deal, offering me as much as $454 but realistically giving me a “market price” of $424. The second best deal was Orchard, which offered me $398 if I was willing to wait three weeks.
NextWorth came in third, offering $345, and then Gazelle was the worst deal out of the bunch, offering $330 for a 16GB Verizon iPhone 6. The tradeoff with Gazelle and NextWorth is that these are instant trade-ins, giving you the money right away after they receive your iPhone in the mail when you ship it, so these two services are perhaps the best options when it comes to the quickest transaction.
However, we’d recommend checking out Glyde or Orchard if you have patience, as they’ll offer you better deals overall for your iPhone. However, in the end, it may be a better idea to just sell your iPhone yourself and get more money for it.
