Apple has just opened a new replacement battery program. If you have a certain model of iPhone, Apple will give you a free replacement battery. Read on to learn if you are eligible for a free battery.
1. Look Up Your iPhone’s Serial Number
Apple’s new iPhone battery replacement program centers around the iPhone 5, which has been notorious for poor battery life. The iPhones that are eligible for the replacement program were sold between September 2012 and January 2013. In order to take part in the program, you will need to look up your device’s serial number. To do that, simply go into the Settings menu, select “General,” and then go down to “About.”
2. Check Your iPhone Serial Number Against Apple’s Battery Replacement Website
Visit this page on the Apple website, which has more details about the new battery replacement program. Simply enter the serial number in the box provided to determine eligibility. Note that while the replacement program is open in the US and China as of August 22, other countries cannot participate until August 29.
You can make an appointment at any Apple store near you to get the battery replaced. If there isn’t an Apple store near you, there is also the option to visit an Apple authorized service provider. You can find the nearest authorized retailer by visiting this Apple webpage.
Before you get the battery replaced, there is a checklist of things you need to do. Firstly, you need to get any screen issues dealt with, such as a cracked screen. Next, you’ll want to back up your iPhone’s data. Third, you need to turn off Find My iPhone. Finally, you must erase all the data on the phone by choosing “Erase all Content and Settings” from the Reset menu.
Simply drop off your iPhone with the repair shop. The amount of time it will take for the battery replacement to be completed will depend on customer demand at your service location of choice. With a new battery, your iPhone should be able to go much longer between charges.
