Apple has a great new policy that gives you the complete iLife & iWork suites for iOS for free with the purchase of a new iOS device. The same policy applies to the Mac software with the purchase of a new Mac, but our focus is on the iOS version with the release of the new iPad Air. If you’re wondering how to get iPhoto, iMovie, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote for free, it couldn’t be easier. The first time you open up the App Store on your new iPad Air, or iPhone 5S for that matter, you’re greeted with a friendly pop-up. The pop-up is titled Apple Apps, and shows the apps mentioned above along with some free Apple apps including GarageBand, iBooks, Podcasts, and Find My iPhone.
The same dialog has appeared for a few years on new devices, but now it has been bolstered with the iLife & iWork apps. The system couldn’t be simpler, and with a single tap on the “Download All” button you will have all 11 apps installed on your new device. If you dismiss the pop-up, you can still download the apps for free. The App Store automatically marks your new device, and unlocks the apps. That means the individual app pages for iPhoto, iMovie, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote show the iCloud download icon at any time you access them again after opening the App Store with your new iOS device.
The entire set-up couldn’t be easier, and the five free Apple apps greatly enhance the usability of your new iOS device.
