Someone told us the jailbreak for iPhone 4S would take a long time but going by what’s on the news, we think iPhone 4S jailbreak is finally out! Folks at iPhone Dev Team and the hacker George Hotz have brought their own versions of the iOS 5 jailbreak which works fine on the iPhone 4S. If you have iPhone 4, not to worry – just update the firmware via iTunes to get the iOS 5 and then proceed with the steps outlined below:
Basically, there are two jailbreak apps for the iPhone 4S right now. The first is limera1n by Hotz and the other is the usual redsn0w by the iPhone Dev Team which has always brought out a very perfect jailbreak for the iPhone and iOS.
How to Jailbreak iPhone 4S via limera1n:
You’ll need a VPN proxy account number and password (get it from rydoor.com). Step One: Download limera1n, unzip and install it. Step Two: Connect the iPhone to your system. Run limera1n. That would ask you to shift to the DFU mode. Step Three: (Entering the DFU mode to install limera1n) Basically, limera1n tells you what to do from here. But just in case you need this info: Entering DFU mode is easy: Press and hold both HOME and POWER button for about 10 seconds. After that, release POWER button but keep holding HOME button for another 15 seconds or so. Now, release HOME button too. This would make the iPhone enter DFU mode – where limera1n would get installed automatically. Step Four: iPhone would reboot now (or restart it). Open limera1n on iPhone and download and install Cydia. Step Five: Go to – Settings->Common->Network->VPN
Add the VPN configuration you got from rydoor.com, select PPTP and then connect the VPN after the settings are all done.
Finally, run Cydia and select User->Complete Upgrade->Reboot Device. After this, restart your iPhone and you’ve got your iPhone jailbroken!
How to jailbreak iPhone 4S via redsn0w:
You could also try the same through redsn0w from the iPhone Dev Team.
First download redsn0w to your PC or Mac.
Launch redsn0w and hit “Jailbreak”
Connect your iPhone 4S to your system. Redsn0w would ask you to get your iPhone into the DFU mode – don’t worry, it’s the same as before, and redsn0w also shows detailed steps to get your iPhone into the DFU mode.
Once that has been done, redsn0w would install automatically and jailbreak your iPhone. Your iPhone would restart automatically now.
Now, choose “Install Cydia.” You might need to reboot your iPhone tethered to get Cydia to load.
When you reboot, all you have to do is connect your iPhone to the system again and run redsn0w.
Click on Extras, then click “Just Boot” and simply follow the instructions. You’ll need to get the iPhone enter DFU mode again, and that would be it – you have a jailbroken iPhone 4S.
