Sometimes your phone creates two or more than two copies of a single contact. This mostly happens when you factory reset a device and sync contacts or change SIM and accidentally sync all contacts. This can completely clutter the contacts, making it hard to navigate through contacts.
Now, you can always manually delete each and every copy of the all the contacts, but this will take forever. Not to worry, we know some simple tricks to remove duplicate contacts from your phone with a few taps.
In this tutorial, we are going to show you different methods to delete duplicate contacts, you can use the one that you can access easily.
Method #1: From the Phone Contacts
Many android phones come with Built-in contacts merging feature (not all of them, however). The phone will scan all contacts and let you delete all duplicate contacts with similar numbers and email address.
Access your Contacts app and tap on the menu button. From the menu, tap on “Merge accounts” and from next prompt tap on “Merge from Google”. From the next prompt, tap on “OK” and all your contacts will be merged.
This will merge the accounts to get rid of duplicate contacts that were created due to multiple accounts. So this method might not be able to address all the duplicate contacts.
Method #2: Use Gmail to delete duplicate contacts
If you like to keep your data backed up, then most probably you have enabled contact syncing with Gmail. It is a built-in feature of android that will sync all of your contacts with your Gmail account that is attached to your phone.
If it is enabled, then you can delete all duplicate contacts from your android phone without even touching it.
Open your Gmail account and click on “Gmail” from the left menu. From the drop down menu, click on “Contacts” and all your contacts will be displayed.
Now, click on “More” located at the top of the screen and from the drop down menu, click on “Find & Merge Duplicates…”
After a short delay, you will see all the duplicate contacts. You can uncheck any contact if you want to keep it, otherwise, just click on “Merge” and all your contacts will be merged.
This should merge all the contacts in your android phone that is connected to that Gmail account.
Method #3: Delete duplicate contacts using a dedicated app
