We all get phone calls at bad times. We’re driving, in a meeting, or watching the last 10 minutes of our favorite TV show’s season ender… Sure, you could let it just go to voice mail, but it’s just common courtesy to let acknowledge the caller. Without actually having to talk to them, of course!
Respond to a Call on Your iPhone With a Text Message
When your iPhone begins to ring, you’ll usually see the caller’s name or number, and the options to “Slide to Answer,” “Remind Me,” and “Message.” “Message is the option we’ll look at today.
While your iPhone is ringing, simply tap the “Message” icon, as shown in the above left screenshot. You’ll see three default responses you can send immediately, “Sorry, I can’t talk right now.” “I’m on my way.” and “Can I call you later?” Tap any of these three options, and your iPhone will automatically send a text with the selected response to the caller.
If you tap “Custom,” you can tap out a quick personalized message to send to the caller. (Please, only do this if you’re safely behind your desk, at a meeting, or watching the aforementioned important television show. NEVER text while you’re driving!)
Modifying the Stock Text Replies
What if you don’t like any of the stock replies supplied by Apple for the caller messages? You can easily modify any and all of them by following the steps listed below.
Tap the “Settings” icon on your iPhone’s Home Screen.
Find and tap the “Phone” menu option in the Settings app.
Find and tap the “Respond with Text” menu option on the “Phone” screen.
You’ll see all three responses listed on the next screen. Simply tap the one you wish to change, and use your iPhone’s virtual keyboard to edit the message.
There you have it. The way to ignore a phone call, without completely ignoring the caller. If you play your cards right, a caller could get blown-off by you multiple times, and not even get upset about it. Well, maybe not. Return their call when you get a chance, OK?
