As you no doubt already know, the first bit of App Store malware was discovered recently, and you may be wondering how you can spot a bit of malicious software on your iPhone. Here is a look at some common signs that you’ve got a bad app.
It Asks for Credit Card Numbers or Other Personal Information
If an app is asking you for information that it doesn’t need, you may have a problem on your hands. When in doubt don’t give out the information at all. Remember that apps bill in-app purchases through the App Store, which already has your credit card information…there’s no need to give it directly to the app.
You Have to Do Something Extraordinary to Get the App
We all know some people go outside of the app store to get their apps. If you do, always make sure they come from a site or developer you trust before you download.
Anything that asks you to use unknown mirrors or do anything out of the ordinary is better skipped.
It’s Too Good to Be True
We’re all used to getting something for nothing in the app store, but you should still be wary of a too-good-to-be-true offer. An offer for free, endless VOIP with no monthly fee and no need for a WiFi connection, for example, would likely involve a catch and could contain malicious code.
Of course, these is fairly common advice. It’s always best to keep an eye out for anything odd and watch the news for new malware issues.
