iPhone contacts is a tricky thing if you are going to sync them, copy them, move them etc. With so much development these days, you can actually copy / sync iPhone contacts with your Gmail, Yahoo, Address Book (on Windows) and pretty much many other services. That’s a great advantage.
But along comes a twist almost always. Many people lose their iPhone contacts when trying to sync or copy them to another database like the Windows Address Book. This is particularly disastrous if you haven’t got any backup of your iPhone contacts! So the first thing you should learn to do is backup your iPhone contacts regularly – and sync comes in handy in those times too.
Here’s how to backup iPhone contacts with PC:
First off, make sure all your contacts are on the phone memory.
Go to Settings -> Mail, Contacts & Calendar -> scroll down to tap on ‘Import SIM Contacts’
This will copy all the contact details on SIM to the phone.
Connect the iPhone to your PC. iTunes will usually launch automatically. If not, open it.
Now, right-click on the iPhone device (in the left-sidebar ‘Devices’ section) in iTunes.
Choose the Info tab.
Tick the checkbox next to Sync Address Book and Contacts.
In case it asks you whether to Merge or Replace, select Merge because replacing would delete previous contacts in either the address book or the iPhone.
Finally, tap on the Sync button at the bottom-right of the iTunes interface.
Your contacts from iPhone will now be in sync with the system – and most importantly, you will now have a safe backup.
This is how you backup iPhone contacts with PC – and this is also how you can restore iPhone deleted contacts.
Restore iPhone Deleted Contacts
In the Step 3 above: Right-click on the iPhone device -> select ‘Restore from Backup’
In case you had a backup of your contacts already, all your deleted contacts will be restored back safely from the backup.
It is recommended that you backup / sync your iPhone contacts regularly in order to avoid any situation where you might end up losing certain important contacts from your iPhone Contacts.
