At last, and almost as promised by iPhone Dev Team, the unlock for iPhone 4, 3GS running iOS 5.0.1 have been finally released. Ultrasn0w – a very popular unlock app in the Cydia store, unlocks your iPhone 4 and 3GS (but they need to be running iOS 5.0.1 jailbroken).
Okay, there are some things you should make sure though. Baseband checks, iOS 5.0.1 check and jailbreak check.. here we go:First off, go to the Settings → General → About of your iPhone 4 or 3GS to see if you are on any of these basebands:
When it comes to unlocking an iPhone, basebands matter – because the unlock code is designed and tested on specific basebands. If you’re on any of these basebands, the next check is to see if you have the latest iOS version running. By latest, we mean iOS 5.0.1. And then finally, after you’ve made sure of that, you should also jailbreak the iPhone (if you have not done so already) – preferably with Redsn0w. We’ve already covered on how to jailbreak your iPhone running iOS 5.0.1 (untethered jailbreak) with Redsn0w.
Here’s how to unlock iPhone 4 on iOs 5.0.1 iOS with Ultrasn0w 1.2.5…
If you have got all the things ready, it’s simple. (Make sure you have a jailbroken iPhone 4 or 3GS running iOS 5.0.1 with Cydia installed)
Step 1: Open Cydia. Tap on Manage and then on Sources.
Step 2: Tap on Add (we are going to add the ultrasn0w repo).
Step 3: After you’ve done that, search for ‘Ultrasn0w’ in Cydia. Install it and just respring your device. Note that you should connect your phone to the system when you reboot (because you are obviously going to have a tethered jailbreak on the iPhone). That’s it!
Needless to say, the unlock will let you use any carrier on your smartphone. It lets you bypass the AT&T or Verizon or Sprint limitation – and using a carrier of your choice gives you a complete control over how much you spend on your smartphone bills. Of course, you need to make sure that the baseband matches and that you are running iOS 5.0.1 with a (tethered) jailbreak.
