Owners of HTC’s two Google Play Edition phones — last year’s HTC One M7 and this year’s HTC One M8 — might be in for a very nice treat next week. Mo Versi, the company’s vice president of product management, confirmed on Twitter that they’re targeting “early next week” for the Android 5.0 Lollipop roll out for these two devices.
It’s not all that surprising considering Google Play Edition phones are mostly stock Android, though some of them include custom drivers to support the devices’ unique hardware features. The building and testing process, then, takes a lot less work and time than, say, the normal versions of these phones.
Unfortunately the word “target” means there’s a chance the date could slip, though HTC has built up a solid enough track record that we wouldn’t worry about it too much. We’ll be on the lookout for its arrival so stay tuned to Phandroid for the latest!
