It looks like the Chinese really love what HTC has done with the Desire 816. That’s because the new midrange phablet has already seen 450,000 pre-orders in China in just three days. That’s certainly a lot, and the 500,000 threshold should be passed very soon.
Because of the great response to the Desire 816 in China, HTC’s shares went up more than 3% today. The news about HTC and its share price especially has been anything but good over the past few quarters, but maybe the company is slowly but surely on the way back to stardom in the smartphone world.
The Desire 816 clearly looks better than any other midranger launched in recent history, it’s got the big screen that Asian markets now demand, and with the record high pre-orders in China it appears it will be very successful indeed, at least on that particular continent. What will happen in Europe and the Americas remains to be seen. The Desire 816 will only arrive in China this month, with a global release coming in April.
The HTC Desire 816 has a 5.5-inch 720p HD touchscreen, a 13 MP rear camera with LED flash, a 5 MP front camera, a 1.6 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1.5 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage, microSD card support, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, dual speakers, and a 2,600 mAh battery. It’s 7.99 mm thin, and weighs 165 grams.
