The selfie is one of the big trends of the year and we're seeing various smartphones dedicated to the craze. Here we've rounded up all the rumours surrounding the HTC Desire Eye release date, price and specs. See also: Best smartphones you can buy in 2014.
HTC Desire Eye: Release date and price
We could be very close to the arrival of the Desire Eye as HTC has scheduled a New York event for 8 October called 'Double Exposure' which will kick off at 9pm UK time. The invitation which you can see below hints at a selfie smartphone as the pair are taking a self-portrait with an HTC One M8.
It's worth noting that there are other possibilities for the launch event. HTC might launch the One M8 Eye (see leak below) – either instead of the Desire Eye or alongside it. There are also rumours around an action camera to rival GoPro and others. HTC's teasers for the event (below) have almost all included the M8 which suggests it will be a smartphone focussed launch.
Talk Android suggests that the Desire Eye will cost around £220 ($350) but if HTC announces the rumoured HTC One M8 Eye, this will understandably be more expensive. The site suggests £275 ($440) but we would expect it to be above £300 at least.
HTC Desire Eye: Specs
As per the leaked image at the top of the page, the Desire Eye is shown with a 13 Mp front facing camera and an LED flash. It's also worth noting that it comes with a dedicated shutter button on the side, much like Sony Xperia handsets.
It looks similar to the recently announced Desire 820 and is rumoured to also have a 13 Mp camera at the rear – hence the 'double exposure' tag.
Other specifications rumoured include a 5.2in Full HD screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 32 GB of internal storage, 2 GB of RAM and Android 4.4 KitKat – all of which match up to the existing One M8. It's also possible that the phone will come with a waterproof design which is something HTC hasn't done before.
