HTC has reportedly been having trouble moving its latest flagship, the One M9. That hasn’t stopped the Taiwanese smartphone vendor from introducing new variants of the device in the market though. Recently, the company introduced a golden version of the smartphone, which has been described as something of an acquired taste by some commentators and reviewers. The version is now available in the UK exclusively on British carrier EE. While the gold version was already announced at the launch of the device in the country, it is being made available for purchase only now. The phone itself is available on EE from both online as well as brick and mortar stores across the country. Plans start from £31.99 per month for 1 GB of LTE data, along with unlimited texts and 1000 minutes of talk time, without any upfront cost. To be eligible for faster 4GEE data speeds, consumers need to shell out £34.99 per month, which gets you 2 GB of data, instead of one.
On the occasion of the phone’s launch, HTC revealed that it has chosen British model and actress Ms. Kelly Brook to highlight the gold qualities of the device. As part of the marketing campaign involving Ms. Brook, the company has released a number of images which show Ms. Brook covered in generous amounts of golden paint while using the One M9 smartphone to take selfies. The final images are reportedly a result of as much as 440 liters of golden paint, and four hours of photo shooting. There’s no talk however, on how long it took the post-production team to get the paint splashes to look like a flowing golden dress worn by Ms. Brook.
According to HTC, the idea behind the imagery was to give a modern and relevant twist to the unforgettable image featuring Marilyn Monroe in the flowing white dress from the 1955 romantic comedy, The Seven Year Itch.
