HTC’s new worst kept secret is the M8 Ace, an alleged plastic version of the flagship One (M8) with comparable specs at a lower cost. Earlier today we learned the new handset could launch as soon as June 3, and now we’re getting another look at the device as it passes through the TENAA for Chinese certification.
The M8 Ace is expected to offer similar specs to the One (M8) including a Snapdragon 801 processor, though it apparently won’t offer the Duo Camera and IR blaster included within the flagship phone. HTC will also trade its aluminum design for colored plastic in an effort to drive down prices. Recent reports have suggested the device could pack the same 5-inch 1080p display as the M8, though @evleaks claims the Ace will actually offer a slightly smaller 4.7-inch screen instead.
Apparently the HTC M8 Ace has just a 4.7-inch screen, not five-inch as is sometimes being reported.
It’s still hard to believe the M8 Ace could hit the market so soon after HTC’s new flagship phone, but now that it’s apparently passed through China’s TENAA we’re starting to accept that this plastic handset really is on the way. With a launch event rumored for June 3 it may not be much longer before HTC confirms the news once and for all.
