HTC has struggled to find success in the smartphone market for the past few years, but it sounds like the company’s next release could be the breakthrough it needs. A new report from VentureBeat reveals a list of powerful specs and features coming to the HTC One M10, citing one anonymous source who managed to get his or her hands on a prototype.
The HTC One M10 (codenamed Perfume) will allegedly come with a 5.1-inch Quad HD display, making it the company’s first major flagship release to offer what’s become the standard resolution for high-end phones. VentureBeat’s source adds that it looked like an AMOLED panel, but they weren’t able to confirm this detail.
Another big upgrade could be the One M10’s primary camera. HTC is apparently set to introduce a 12-UltraPixel shooter with laser-assisted autofocus and optical image stabilization. The front-facing camera could offer OIS as well.
Under the hood, the new phone allegedly packs a Snapdragon 820 processor with Adreno 530 graphics, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. It runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with HTC’s own Sense 8.0 UI. We still don’t know much about the new in-house software, though it could be a deciding factor in how well the One M10 is received.
As for the phone’s design, the source claims that could still change. HTC is expected to debut a new look for the One M10, though recent reports also suggest it might not be too different from the One A9. The source does note that HTC’s iconic BoomSound front-facing speakers won’t be included, which is a bit of a bummer.
Finally, VentureBeat notes that the One M10 won’t make its debut at Mobile World Congress next month. Instead, HTC is expected to hold a dedicated event before releasing the device this spring.
