The HTC One M8 GPE was the only lasting Google Play Edition smartphone available on Google’s online store. And as of today, the smartphone has been officially taken from the Play Store, which officially (or unofficially) marks the end of the Google Play Edition lineup.
This was a gradual process with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4, the Sony Z Ultra and the LG G Pad 8.3 being removed from the Play Store and now it seems like the HTC One M8 is getting the boot as well.
In cases like these, it’s awfully hard to get confirmation from Google directly, but it’s safe to say that we probably won’t see the One M8 on the Play Store any time soon. We’re hoping against hope that HTC will have a GPE version of the One M9 which is launching in March. This will provide a stock Android alternative to those seeking a “vanilla” experience with their smartphone.
Do you think Google or the manufacturers shouldn’t have given up on the GPE series?
