HTC’s One M9 was not favorably received and sales were underwhelming, but the Taiwanese company isn’t giving up.HTC recently dropped hints about a new hero phone, and now @Evleaks, the often correct tech leaker, has tipped off a new HTC phone set for release in the fall.
The rumored HTC Aero, which will bear the One name shared by the HTC One M9 and M9+, will serve as an “intermediate” device, according to Blass. Once the HTC Aero launches, it will likely be under a different name, possibly the HTC Hero. Blass’ characterization of the new phone as an “intermediate” model implies that it likely won’t be a high-end smartphone, but perhaps something more characteristic of an iPhone 5C. No mock-ups are out as of yet, but with the possibility of an M9 Mini pretty much ruled out, speculation can go in any direction.
Another indication that the HTC Aero will not serve as a primary flagship device is its supposed release schedule. The new HTC device will reportedly be released in November, meaning quite significantly that it will not be competing directly with either the new iPhone or new Samsung devices. Evleaks’ tweet indicates that it was originally Sprint that tipped off the existence of the device, and the carrier will likely carry the phone.
HTC has been focusing its energies on growth lately. It was announced just a few months ago that the HTC One M9+ was heading for the Chinese market. Any sales it can get right now would be a huge help to the ailing Taiwanese company, especially considering it recently slashed its sales estimates.
A tweet isn’t much to go off, so only time will tell what we can expect to see from HTC. We’ll keep you updated here.
