There are many reasons for buying a cover or case for your mobile device, ranging from added protection to just being aesthetically pleasing. After all, if you have to shell out over $500 for the latest high-end device, even minor scratches can be incredibly annoying. Even if OEMs claim increased durability, it’s always better to be safe, rather than sorry.
At an event hosted in Seattle, HTC unveiled a new cover design for its flagship device, the HTC One X. While there will eventually be two designs for users to choose from, only one design (seen above) was showcased at this event. The perforated hard shell design will come in four colors – white, grey, blue, and orange. While there is a large cutout for the bulbous camera, hopefully, this cover will provide some protection against the scratches that the silver camera lens casing is picking up after only a few days of use, as observed by a few One X owners.
There is no information on the release date or pricing of this particular case, but will likely be released in-time for the May 6 launch of the AT&T HTC One XL. A UK website, Mobilefun, lists the case as “Coming Soon” with a price tag of £17.99 (~$25).
What are your thoughts? Are covers helpful? While they offer a certain level of protection, do you think they take away from the appeal of the original design of the phone? What do you think of the design of the HTC One X cover? Let us know in the comments section below.
