Huawei has just unveiled the Mate 20 Pro and it packs a punch in terms of performance, camera and features zipping past any other phone on the market. The phone showcases tremendous technological prowess easily making it our favorite phone of the year. In particular, here are the features that have impressed us
Kirin 980 chipset
The Huawei Mate 20 Pro features the Kirin 980 which is the world’s first 7nm Mobile AI Chipset and was announced at the IFA conference in August. Featuring 6.9 billion transistors, the Kirin 980 is 75% faster than its previous generation as far as the CPU is concerned and 46% faster when it comes to the GPU.
Huawei has also doubled down on it's NPU with real time video processing as well as the capability of recognizing 4,500 images per minute. Based on benchmarks, The HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro is the fastest Android phone.
After conquering the best smartphone camera with the P20 Pro earlier this year, Huawei is back with a 40MP Leica Triple camera setup on the HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro pushing the boundaries of smartphone photography even further.
It’s the first smartphone camera with a Leica Ultra Wide Angle Lens to Capture Wider or go extremely close to your subject for a 2.5cm Ultra Macro shot. On the AI side, the camera can now apply AI color effects to your portrait photos as well as let you chose the shape of your background bokeh effect.
Charging and battery
There are tons on innovations on the HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro with battery and charging capabilities that we have never seen on any other smartphone. The phone is equipped with a massive 4,200mAh battery that easily lasts a day of heavy usage.
Huawei has bundled a 40W charger with the phone which can charge the battery extremely quickly- 70% in just 30 minutes. The HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro also supports the fastest wireless charging in the industry with the optional Huawei 15W charger. What’s even more impressive is that it can reverse wireless charge other devices- a feature we haven’t seen in any other smartphone.
Another area Huawei is taking leadership in smartphones is by introducing two highly secure authentication methods that we’ve never seen on any phone together. The first is Face Unlocking with a 3D depth sensing camera on the front which is an extremely secure way of unlocking your phone.
But for added convenience, Huawei has also added a teb-level DPS fingerprint sensor that’s built under the screen. We’ve seen this technology on the Mate RS from Huawei before but it is now noticeably faster and makes it convenient to unlock the phone without looking at it.
There are a lot more features on the HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro such as a beautiful 6.39-inch 3D curved OLED display with HDR support, an IP68 water and dust resistant rating and dual stereo speakers with invisible design. Witn the Mate 20 Pro, Huawei has positioned itself in the driving seat taking the entire smartphone industry forward.
