For most high-end and popular devices, root, custom recovery, and—in some cases—unlocked bootloaders come all at once. And if one is delayed, it’s generally unlocking the bootloader. However, on some devices it can take a little more time for even the basics, as Huawei MediaPad owners will tell you. The slightly underrated dual-core, 7″ offering from Huawei was rooted some time ago, but is just now getting a first glimpse at a custom recovery.
XDA Forum Member hwmod, who’s done quite a bit of work for MediaPad development, has released a test version of ClockworkMod Recovery. The build is a little rough around the edges as several features don’t work just yet or are buggy. This includes:
data & time on archives are wrong
mount USB storage does not work
adb not enabled in recovery mode
Formats and Wipes do not work don’t use them
Despite the issues, a few users have reported that the recovery is otherwise working and it shouldn’t be long before the bugs can be fixed. From that point, the MediaPad will have a custom recovery which could help spark further development such as ROMs and custom kernels.
