Huawei announced today that its MediaPad M5 range of tablets are now available in the US. This includes the MediaPad M5 8.4, MediaPad M5 10.8 and the MediaPad M5 Pro 10.8, which will be priced at $319, $359 and $449 respectively. These are pretty decent prices for what are essentially high-end tablets from Huawei. All three models will be available from Amazon and Newegg. The non-pro models will be available in Space Gray, with the MediaPad M5 Pro 10.8 being available in Champagne Gold.
The Huawei MediaPad M5 lineup was announced by the company at Mobile World Congress back in February. It was made available in select markets not too long after the announcement, but there was no word on whether these would make it to the US, or when that would happen. It’s good to see that they are launching in the US now, however. The Three tablets are all very similar, however, the MediaPad M5 Pro 10.8 does come with the Huawei M-Pen, and also has a desktop mode that functions more like Windows than Android. Which is going to be good for those that want to be productive with the tablet. All three tablets sport 2560×1600 resolution displays, powered by the Kirin 960 processor along with 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage (the US models will come with 64GB of storage). There is also a micro SD card slot available for expanding storage, should you need more space. Huawei also has Android Oreo available on these tablets along with EMUI v8.0, so you are getting the latest version of Android as well.
Huawei’s MediaPad M5 range is a good option for those that are looking for a tablet to use to consume media while on the go. It’s able to playback media in 2K quality, which is going to look really good on this larger display. Additionally, this is the first time that 2.5D glass has been used on a tablet, and it does make the MediaPad M5 look really nice. Of course, that means you’re getting Gorilla Glass 3 here instead of Gorilla Glass 5, which is less prone to scratches and that’s a good thing.
