What’s a better way to recover from the onslaught of magnificent big-budgeted games we witnessed at E3 last week than to stop and appreciate the other most exciting video game scene in video gaming: the indies? Here is one we’ve all heard of and love, and yet, its major announcement went under the radar at E3 this year.
Hyper Light Drifter has found yet another new home on the Xbox One. Previously heading towards the Wii U, PlayStation 4, PS Vita, and PC, now more people will get the chance to play this incredible looking game.
The new trailer, hosted on Xbox’s official YouTube page, is the best place to start if you are just climbing aboard. The pixelated art and serene music are only the beginning as the drifter travels deeper and deeper into his ruined world. We’ve all seen the giant robots he stumbles across at this point, but I’m wondering if that’s all creator Alex Preston and his company Heart Machine have in mind.
Originally asking for just $27,000 during its crowd-funding campaign, Hyper Light Drifter closed donations at $645,158, placing it among the most successful video games in Kickstarter history in terms of percentages. That overwhelming support though has also pushed its development back with Preston changing the scope of the project.
We’ll patiently sit and wait for more of this beautiful title as he makes it available. Hyper Light Drifter will be released for the PlayStation 4, PS Vita, Wii U, PC, and now Xbox One this year.
