I’m not sure that the original can be improved on, but here goes—kid lit classic If You Give a Mouse a Cookie is getting a mobile age makeover with If You Give a Mouse an iPhone. You can probably imagine where this one’s going. Blowing by cookies as kids’ go-to Thing That Makes Them Ask For Other Things, the iPhone is the brutally obvious choice here for parents. If you give a kid 10 minutes on the iPhone, you’re not going to just get a request for more time like the titular mouse begs for. You’re going to get begged for apps, in-app purchases, music, movies, toys, and whatever else they can find, which is what happens when you hand a child the entire stockpile of the world’s digitally recorded information and tell them, ‘hey, give that back in a few minutes.’ If You Give a Mouse an iPhone is on Amazon, so your three-year-old probably already knows about it, anyway. It costs $12.65, and you can also buy Goodnight iPad for around the same price. Both were written by a guy writing under the pseudonym ‘Ann Droyd.’ So ironic! Just the man for this age.
