It has been a case of jealousy for the android users when they used to see iPhone users use the Instagram app. But now no more of that as Instagram is finally available for android users too. The most anticipated android app, Instagram for android has finally hit the Google Store. Being already quite famous on the iPhone, the app had got around 430K signups on its pre-release signup page for Google’s OS.With the app having been released, we would like to compare Instagram for Android vs. Instagram for iPhone and check whether the android app fares better than the iPhone one.
Instagram for Android vs. Instagram for iPhone
Along with the filters of the Instagram for iPhone, the Instagram for Android sports a smoother interface.
Both have almost the same home screens except for a few tweaks to the tab bar like a redesigned camera button and the typical Android ‘active bar’ on the current tab.
The News tab is also almost same in both except that there are two large tabs on the Android version while the iOS version sports two buttons.
Then it comes the Profile screen which is one area where the Android version of Instagram outshines. The android version takes you directly to your profile, with all the details of your account hidden under the standard settings button in the upper right hand corner of the interface. While in the iPhone version, you need to go through a standard list of options instead of going directly to your profile.
Considering the image capture process, Instagram for Android is designed to be backwards compatible all the way to Android 2.2 devices with OpenGL ES 2 support, an option which was just recently added to the iPhone version.
Besides all the above qualities, Instagram for Android is a kind of iOS development house having quite a lot of similarities with the iPhone version yet managing to maintain an extraordinary theme between the two. It’s going to be a real fun Instagram experience for the android users.
