The Nook HD was primarily designed to be a multimedia based e-reader. One of the main benefits of purchasing a tablet is that you can install apps, games, watch movies and listen to music. A dedicated e-ink based reader is designed specifially for reading books, without all the distractions that tablets bring to the table. B&N has invested heavily into developing a video and television service, to buy and rent movies. They have also revised their entire UI and store experience. If you ever had the Nook Color or Nook Tablet, you are in for quit a treat.
The Apple iPad Mini was the companies first 7.9 inch device, and is a severe departure from the larger iPad line of tablets. The big draw with this new unit, is the portability factor and expansive iOS ecosystem.
