After months of rumors and anticipation, Apple is finally ready to announce its sixth-generation smartphone
It's been a long time coming, but we can finally rest assured that Apple's iPhone 5 event is today. Go ahead, jump up and down, crank up your music, get excited and let that inner-geek out -- we'll wait ...
You good now? No?
Deep breaths, guys.
What exactly will be revealed today is a little hazy since it's Apple, and Apple just really gets its kicks from keeping its gear as secretive as possible until its go time. Will we learn everything we possibly need to know about the company's sixth-generation handset today? Probably, at least most of it.
Will we actually get to fork over our dough for iPhone 5 pre-orders after the event? Not according to the latest rumors, which speculate that we'll be waiting at least two more days. And then of course there's the holdout to the actual iPhone 5 release date (general consensus is Sept. 21 on that one).
Oh, and another thing, we're not even sure that Apple's hottest new handset will be given a proper name. Calling it the iPhone 5 might actually make too much sense at this point. Seriously, just look how the company handled that whole "new iPad" thing.
Really though, do you care what it's named as long as it holds true to every gleaming promise the company slaps on it? Larger display, thinner device, faster performance. Apple can call it whatever it wants, as far as we're concerned.
