Walmart just dropped the prices of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c in a likely effort to rid existing inventory ahead of the expected new iPhone next month. The iPhone 5c, which is sold in-stores on AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile, is priced at just 97 cents. If my sweet tooth has any indication, that’s cheaper than a candy bar in the check-out aisle at Walmart.
Additionally, Walmart cut the price of the iPhone 5s down to $79 from $99, CNET said. The iPhone 5c was typically priced at around $29. Customers will need to sign a two-year contract with one of the four aforementioned carriers in order to take advantage of the deal, but it’s still a pretty incredible sale considering the iPhone 5c made its debut at $99, while the iPhone 5s initially launched for $199 on contract.
We expect Apple to reveal its new 4.7-inch iPhone 6 on Sept. 9 and it’s possible the company will also treat us to news on the larger 5.5-inch model, which has been referenced as the iPhone Air and iPhone 6L. Sales like this one from Walmart, which started at 9 a.m. today according to CNET, suggest that at least one of those phones is going to hit the market sooner than later.
