While it’s likely to be many months until we see the Apple iPhone 6, there has already been a bountiful supply of rumors and leaks. One of the longest-standing rumors surrounds a larger display size, and a recent report suggested there would be two models of the iPhone 6 with different-sized screens. Now a purported iPhone 6 panel image has been leaked.
In February it was reported that there would be an iPhone 6 with a 4.7-inch display as well as another model with a 5.6-inch screen. There has also been a lot of conjecture over the possibility of Quantum Dot technology being used for the iPhone 6 as well as pointers that it will feature a sapphire glass display.
The leaked image that has just been disclosed claims to be of a front panel of the iPhone 6, and if accurate it does suggest there will be a larger display this time around, reinforcing earlier reports. The panel shown has notably slimmer bezels to the top and bottom with nothing at all on the sides.
This would allow a larger display while not necessarily increasing the overall size of the device. That said, although it would enable a slightly larger screen, it would not be by as much as the 4.7-inches minimum suggested.
It’s important to note that this could be prototype testing though, in which case we may see several panels leaked over the next few months with various sizes. This seems likely as it’s still very early days for this to be the final panel being used, even if the part shown has real iPhone 6 connections.
Another thing we should point out is that there is no way of verifying this image and it could be a hoax, so we shouldn’t read too much into it at this stage. We also think the aperture for the home button looks rather oddly placed.
Do you think there’s any plausibility that this is the real front panel for the genuine iPhone 6? Would you like to see the next iPhone have a larger display, and if so, what size do you think is ideal?
