NEW YORK, United States – It is always a wager how much funding would a project earn on Kickstarter, but the Pebble ePaper smartwatch seem to have made an extremely good kick-start with its earnings of $5.7 million and counting with initial pledged amount of only $100,000.
The Pebble ePaper smartwatch features compatibility with iOS 5 and Android 2.3 and up, a 1.26-inch 144 x 168-pixel black and white ePaper backlight display, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, four control buttons, vibration and a three-axis accelerometer.
The watch is able to receive calls and message notifications as well as to control Spotify, iTunes and Pandora on the supported devices. It also supports external apps and has SDK for user created apps.
The bidding on Kickstarter included 200 early bird backers with $99 preorders of the watch, which is sold out. Currently the watch is still earning backers with preorders starting at $115 for the black version. The expected retail price of the watch is more than $150.
