Although not the first of its kind, Beat the Bullies puts a nice spin on the traditional iOS puzzle game. The game revolves around your character, a bouncing flame, that is attempting to rescue its girlfriend (who knew fireballs could have relationships?) from the evil snowman and his gang of penguins. While the gameplay is mostly pleasant (although sometimes frustrating, but that happens with practically every iOS game), the storyline is barely there and the graphics are quite subpar. The controls are easy to get used to, and there are pretty detailed instructions to assist first-time players.
This isn’t a game I would normally go out of my way to buy and play, but I did have a bit of fun with it. What I find most interesting about Beat the Bullies is that it was developed using the Unity game engine, and really shows what the SDK is capable of creating.
How does it work?
Beat the Bullies is a level-based game (120 in total), all involving the same basic concept of building and navigating your way into the fire while avoiding obstacles such as the penguins that will attempt to throw you off by pushing you into spikes. The further you advance, the more complex the gameplay becomes as you gain access to weapons and other items such as trampolines and missiles.
At first, you’re merely bouncing around and laying/charging through platforms to guide the fireball toward the fire in order to complete the level. As you progress, the game goes from incredibly easy to somewhat challenging, but at least it never gets out of hand like some iOS games do.

Is it contagious?
To be completely honest, not really. I’ve played so many games that are too similar to Beat the Bullies, and it just isn’t unique enough to keep me drawn into it. I got relatively bored after about 30-45 minutes of playing, mostly due to the repetitive nature of each level. Sure, a few new things are introduced every now and then, but the general concept of each level is to simply bounce your way into the fire.
The only way I’d really recommend buying this game is if you haven’t played anything like it before.
