Water and iPhones, a winning combination? Rendering: Sang Keun Sim
Design concepts are usually exactly what they say they are: concepts. So it’s no surprise when iPhone docks appear on devices that are usually smartphone-free.
Designers Sang Keun Sim & Kyowon L&C Design Lab have created a water purifier that doubles as a hot water kettle. OK, this makes sense. But the designers of the Wells Smart Mini didn’t stop there. The appliance also contains a dock for an iPhone or iPod. Apparently, the act of heating up water should have musical accompaniment.
Let’s temporarily dismiss the fact that electronics and steam shouldn’t mix. Instead, let’s focus on the idea that every appliance needs an iPhone dock. A dock on an oven could create a playlist that lasts exactly long enough to bake cookies. A fridge dock could help alert owners that milk is running low.
And the dishwasher could… Actually let’s keep the iPhone away from any more water-based appliances.
Like most concepts, there’s little chance we’ll ever see the Wells Smart Mini water purifier on the market. But if it does make it past the design stage, tea-steeping playlists will probably end up being “a thing.”
