The newly released iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are both equipped with amazing cameras, and this week’s app sales are packed with photography apps. If you’re looking to make the most of the improved imaging performance of your new phone, you’re in the right place.
In addition to a smattering of camera and photo editing apps are a range of offers including one of the iPad’s strongest mind mapping tools and the closest thing iOS gamers have to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
AppAlchemy is the critically acclaimed “app book” from Dan Marcolina, responsible for the iPhone Obsessed series. The app provides you with a rich interactive medium to explore a myriad of iPhoneography techniques using some familiar and not so familiar software. Whether you’re really interested in learning or are just wondering what can be done, now is the time to download it for free.
Apple’s App of the Week, Fragment is a photo editing app centred around geometric shapes, allowing you to flip, filter and radically alter parts of your photo using easy-to-apply tools. There are also a heap of standard editing tools, allowing you to rotate, resize, frame and crop your photo and stack effects for some truly out of this world results.
Lenka is a black and white photo app developed by world renowned French photographer Kevin Abosch, allowing professionals and amateurs alike to create impressive black and white photographs. You don’t need to shoot in colour first with Lenka, and can see your results in full black and white before you hit the shutter. The app gives each exposure its own unique flavour, and for free this is a must-have for iPhoneographers.
If there’s one reason to download Camera Plus, it’s the recently introduced AirSnap feature. With two devices each running Camera Plus, you can have a remote and master camera with which you can take photos remotely. The technology is perfect for group shots, pet photography or any time you want the perfect selfie. Camera Plus also comes with a few other unique features, like a mode that locks focus range and some editing tools as well.
Mind mapping is all about getting your thoughts down in front of you in some sort of cohesive order, and the iPad facilitates this task excellently. The barrier for entry to many however is the price, with most of the best mindmap solutions sitting in the $10 price bracket. Now’s your chance to save 80% on a strong contender in the form of iThoughts. Check out some of the others here.
Your iPhone has a magnetometer in it which measures the strength of surrounding magnetic fields, and that’s what this app displays. It’s a niche application and it won’t be anywhere near as accurate as a dedicated tool, but you might have a use for it if you’re a researcher, ghost-hunter or just plain bored.
Numerity is a celebrated numbers-based puzzle game: find and isolate the correct numbers on screen until they resemble a distinctive image. It was designed to tax concentration, memory and numbers skills and provides over 50 levels across five themes to work your way through. The game supports iCloud for syncing between devices, comes with an original soundtrack and is free to download for the moment.
Modern Combat has gone beyond being a simple Modern Warfare clone for iOS games and taken on fanbase of its own, growing into a franchise that’s known for its visual splendor and multiplayer fun. Yup – you heard right, there’s a full multiplayer mode here that pits whole squads of people against each other complete with voice chat and rewards to be won.
And this week’s board game (or thereabouts) comes from GamesWorkshop in the form of Talisman, a digital version of the best-selling cardboard classic complete with original artwork and revised fourth edition rules. The game itself is family-friendly – you have to do little more than roll a die to move and draw the occasional card to decide your fate. Currently half-price, Talisman has a full miltiplayer mode for two to four players, offline and online.
That’s it for this week’s offers, check back next weekend for more Apps on Sale.
