After tearing down the iPhone 5 and its accompanying new earbuds, iFixit has set out to disassemble the 5th generation iPod Touch.
What they found was the device is beautifully designed even on the inside -- check out the contrast of the orange ribbon cable and the blue case. But the iPhone 5's thin little brother turned out to be very difficult to disassemble, reassemble and repair.
Opening the device requires going through several clips and adhesive, and the lightning connector -- itself tied to the headphone jack and the microphone ribbon cable -- is soldered to the logic board. That's going to make any kind of messing around inside an extremely delicate operation.
