Ice Cream Sandwich has only recently been announced for an October/November release but that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill churning out possible code names for its followup. According to This Is My Next, a “trusted source” has informed them Jelly Bean is the working title for the next incarnation of Android.
New versions of Android are named after famous deserts, so this speculation could well come true, but that didn’t stop the story being subsequently updated with information from “another well-regarded source” who states “that Jelly Bean is in the running for the name, but that the choice hasn’t yet been finalised by Google.” The drama!
Of more interest, is the source’s additional ‘revelation’ that Ice Cream Sandwich will contain some “fairly major architectural, functional, and design changes in Ice Cream Sandwich.”
PCMag has had a further stab at guesstimating the code name and ruled out Jell-O and Jujubes since they’re former brand names. Their pick is Jelly Roll but their motivation for this choice mainly stems from its former slang use as another phrase for rumpy pumpy. On a side note, we would very much like it if the eighteenth Android update was named Rumpy Pumpy.
