One of the best things about having small children around, is they will give you a true user review of any product that’s geared towards them. When I think an app or game is just perfect, the ultimate deciding factor and presence of a post on Berryfication sometimes lies in their hands.
KIDSAPPS in Africa for BlackBerry PlayBook, Android & iOS is precisely one of these apps-games that I’m referring to. I spent a few minutes checking it out before I decided that my son Oliver would be the first to take it for a spin.. So let’s see what came of this experiment.
The app-game hybrid caught my attention first because the hands that work out the BlackBerry App World Carousel [New PlayBook tablet 2.0 App World] were clever enough to place the product right in front of my face. I can’t even begin to explain how frustrating it is to find new material on the App World via our PlayBook’s. But often I will just check the new stuff online since a refresh is a lot more responsive there.. that’s another story all together.
KIDSAPP in Africa is designed for children ages 3 – 7 years old. My initial impression was, it has cute animals from Africa, sweet music that doesn’t tire on the ears but seems to keep me happy as a father of a few little one’s. and gameplay is easy to follow with on-screen instructions.
My 6 year old Oliver takes it for a spin. He touched the icon, loaded it up in the Android Player [BlackBerry Runtime, etc], and was off. He lit up like a Christmas tree the moment he heard the music. His comments were: “the animals are soo cute”, “I love this music”, “Dad look how good I am at these puzzles”, and “Oh! I can draw them too!”
Oliver did let his twin brother Kellin check it out, and Kellin’s reaction was nearly exactly the same. “Cute animals, cute music” etc. I’ve only had this app-game for a few days now, but Oliver still plays it first before any other game or app on the PlayBook. And his joy brings me joy. I don’t feel like he’s killing things, or frying his precious mind flinging creatures over the screen.
The KIDSAPP in Africa app-game is only $2.99 for BlackBerry PlayBook, which is the version reviewed. With compatible versions on Android and iOS as well.
