December’s holiday season brought with it record sales for Amazon’s new Kindle Fire tablet. No surprise, then, that Internet traffic from the device spiked on Christmas day, as Santa’s good little boys and girls fired their Fires up for the first time.
According to Millennial Media, ad requests on its network from the Fire increased 261 percent on December 25th and another 46 percent on the 26th.
And for Christmas week entire?
Average daily growth of 113 percent.
Which is impressive. And to be clear, this is not a throw-away metric. Millennial Media’s mobile ad network is among the largest in the United States, second only to Google’s, so this spike is very real. That said, it will be interesting to see how much staying power it has now that the holidays have ended and we’re headed into 2012, which will see the debut of Apple’s next iPad.
