Kingdom Hearts is finally coming to an HD console. Unfortunately for longtime fans, it isn't Kingdom Hearts 3. It isn't even a brand new spinoff game. It's the next best thing: an HD collection.
Kingdom Hearts 1.5 is coming to PS3, and it will include HD remastered versions of Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. It's an odd collection selection of titles that originally released on PS2, Game Boy Advance, and Nintendo DS.
Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix is the "definitive" version of the first game in the franchise. Re:Chain of Memories was originally a Game Boy Advance game, but was remade into a full 3D game on PlayStation 2. Finally, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 was a Nintendo DS game. It'll be interesting to see how Square Enix updates the game (if at all). Famitsu (via Joystiq) speculates that only the cutscenes from that title will get the HD treatment, viewable in a theater mode.
Kingdom Hearts 1.5 will be available on PS3 in Japan in 2013. No word yet on a North American release, but considering the popularity of the franchise, it seems inevitable.
