The Last Guardian has almost become the punchline of a very long, much hyped, completely absent from conventions joke. In development since before dinosaurs roamed the earth, Team Ico is apparently still hard at work on the game.
Dengeki PlayStation spoke with developers about their recent work at the game making corporation. They even hit The Last Guardian Director Fumito Ueda about the most memorable title from 2014, who said that “The Last Guardian, by which I mean all the hardships and the unforeseen amount of time required than what was originally thought.”
It doesn’t stop their. Ueda was further prodded by Dengeki PlayStation, and he offered this bit that shows some things have changed.
“Talks with Sony Computer Entertainment on The Last Guardian have been ironed out, and we’re making progress under completely new conditions. I’m also working on some other things that I’ll hopefully be able to show in time if progress is smooth.”
Development appears to be off the rocks between developer and publisher, according to that quote. The more interesting thing there, of course, is the bit about “making progress under completely new conditions.”
Given that the PlayStation 4 has already been out for a year, one has to assume that Sony is now pushing Ueda and company to release The Last Guardian on the PlayStation 4. That would need ironing out, of course, and it would force the team to do a lot of redevelopment. That certainly explains a lot, doesn’t it?
What do you think? Is The Last Guardian PlayStation 4 bound?
