The entire iOS platform is founded on a simple app launcher, which is your home screen providing one tap access to a wide variety of portals. It’s effortless to use, but is it actually possible to improve upon the iOS home screen? Well, the developers of Launch Center Pro think so, and they have just redesigned the app in a major 2.0 update. Launch Center Pro 2 takes the ideas of the home screen, and takes it up a notch to give you greater abilities in launching things quickly. The app is advertised as a speed dial for action, and that is an apt description as it lets you launch tasks, and not just apps.
Launch Center Pro lets you do a wide variety of quick actions so that instead of launching the phone app you’re dialing a contact, rather than opening messages you’re sending a message to a particular person, and the same goes for e-mail. Everything is designed to quickly launch you into getting things done, rather than just opening the front to then dive into get things done. Launch Center Pro isn’t just about Apple’s stock apps, but also connects to a wide variety of third party apps. For instance, you can go straight to the camera in Instagram, directly to creating a new Task in Clear, right to a new event in Fantastical 2, and many more. The best part is that it’s effortless to add in the different array of actions, as you can simply tap to add an action, and can view the list of available actions for your installed apps. You don’t need to know the callback urls, or any complexities beyond tapping the plus button for the apps you already use.
You add actions to a main screen that offers a five by three gird with each square offering a place to put an action. Once the action is on the grid, you’re one tap away from activating it, and you can set-up sub groups on the main grid. When you create a group, you simple tap, hold, and drag your finger to the action within a group to launch it. There are so many things you can add to the grid array from stock iOS actions to detailed third party app abilities, and then you can arrange it however you feel. It takes a bit to get used to all that Launch Center Pro can do, but once you’re familiar the app will likely gain a place on your dock. It’s a springpad to most things your iPhone can do, and it can greatly heighten your iPhone productivity. The 2.0 update introduces a clean iOS 7 style that really fits with the quick actions of Launch Center Pro. There are also brand new actions, a new action composer, all new customization options, and much more.
Launch Center Pro 2 ($4.99, iPhone) is a must have app to truly change the way you use your iPhone like no other app.
