Apples next-generation iPhone could feature a new type of Lightning cable. Chinese website Dianxinshouji.com (via Nowhereelse.fr) has published images of a cable featuring a reversible USB connector.
If the information is correct, users could insert the USB plug of the cable into their computer without having to worry about aligning the correct side. Thats very similar to the Lightning end of the cable, which can be plugged into an iOS device no matter its orientation.
A look at the Lightning end of the cable, supposedly taken at Foxconn.
Back in May, a report said Apple was planning to introduce HD audio playback into iOS 8 and would also unveil revamped in-ear headphones with an updated Lightning connector supporting the technology.
While it is unknown if the images are legitimate, MacRumors also pointed out that an Apple patent for a reversible USB connector was approved earlier this year.
The iPhone 6 is expected to be unveiled at a special media event on Tuesday, Sept. 9. The cable could also be included with other new iOS devices like the upcoming iPad Air 2 and third-generation iPad mini.
