If you’re like me, you’ve been wondering what the new Android codename will be for the upcoming October release will be. We know it starts with L, will likely be 5.0, and will be the name of some sweet. As of right now, it seems like Lemon Meringue Pie fits the mould. According to Android Police, there are multiple sources in documentation and code that hint at the next release being referred to as such. The current preview builds are referred to as “lmp-preview-release” by the Android SDK.
More evidence comes from the WiFi certification for HTC’s “flounder” device, which also lists the Firmware version as LMP (pictured above). If you get curious and decide to search for LMP in the AOSP repository, you will get nine results, and one has LMP in the title. Now, we all know that last year Key Lime Pie was predicted to be the name for Android KitKat, but at the last second, Google pulled a fast one and made a deal with Nestle. If they decide to go that route again this year, Wonka should be eagerly awaiting a new Laffy Taffy deal.
What do you think? Lemon Meringue Pie, or something different? Let us know below what you think.
