For those of you that bought the LG G Pad 10.1 LTE from Verizon, you’ve probably been waiting for a while to get your hands on the Lollipop update, right? Well it’s finally here. Today, Verizon and LG started rolling out the update to the LG G Pad 10.1 LTE, so you can head into Settings > About Tablet > System Updates > Check for Updates. For those of you wondering, it is build VK70022A.
As far as what’s new, obviously you get plenty of Lollipop features like the Smart Lock. Which allows you to keep your phone unlocked – meaning the pin or password will be disabled – when connected to a trusted device. Like a smartwatch, Bluetooth device or an NFC device. It’s actually quite a handy feature, and one that I use everyday. Additionally you’ll get the new notification panel. Which LG hasn’t integrated it the best, compared to other OEMs, but it’s not terrible.
In the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the LG G Pad 10.1 LTE, you’ll also be getting some new home touch buttons. Instead of having back, home and menu, you now have a recents key there. The back, home and recents do look like stock Lollipop as well. If you’ve used the LG G4, LG G Flex 2 or even the LG G3 on Lollipop, you’ll feel right at home.
There’s no word on the size of the update, but we’re pretty certain it’s a hefty update. As every other update to Lollipop has been on other devices. So if you don’t have unlimited data, we’d highly suggest waiting to download it until you are on WiFi. It’ll be faster, and you won’t incur overage charges from Verizon that way.
Check out the source link down below to see all the details on the update from Verizon, from their support website. The update is rolling out now, and is likely a slow rollout. While these slow rollouts are a bit annoying, they do it for good reason. And that’s to be sure that the update doesn’t brick devices, or cause other issues. It’s easier to fix an issue on a few devices than thousands of devices.
