Fido is always late to the party and the terrific LG G4 has been available since the middle of June in Canada and Fido is just now getting the device – but certainly a good thing for Fido customers looking for a high-end smartphone, although the pricing is still a bit on the expensive side. It will cost you $250 on a two-year Tab24 agreement on a Smart Plan, $515 with a two-year Tab24 agreement on a Standard Plan or simply $700 outright and it does comes with the optional black leather cover.
LG took the innovative LG G3 smartphone and made many improvements in the LG G4 to make it a standout flagship. The new technology with the Quantum IPS Quad HD display creates a 25-percent brighter display with a 50-percent increase in the contrast and 56-percent improvement to the color accuracy over the LG G3. The display went to 5.5-inches, but LG curved the entire device ever so slightly – not like their LG G Flex 2 – to make it fit more comfortably in your hand. It has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and 538 pixels-per-inch (PPI).
LG also took a chance in the processor department where they passed on the Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor that they used in their G Flex 2 for the 64-bit Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor with a quad-core clocked at 1.44GHz and a dual-core clocked at 1.82GHz. It packs 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory with a microSD card slot for additional external expansion. A removable 3,000 mAh battery with quick charge and an optional wireless charging as well supplies power. The LG G4 comes with one of the top-rated cameras – a 16MP sensor, laser autofocus, dual-tone LED flash, a wide f/1.8 aperture and OIS and also includes a huge 8MP front-facing camera (FFC) that shares the f/1.8 aperture for great lowlight selfies or video chats.
The LG G4 also includes an FM Stereo radio, a built-in IR Blaster, unique controls on the back of the device – on/off and volume and some great software, not only to control the smartphone, but also in the camera area…especially for those that like total control over their camera.
